Obviously that will depend on how physical the 12 year old is relative to adult male sizes. I would say they run slightly on the large size. I am 5' 11" and weigh 190#, I normally were an XL in shirts/jackets. Based on previous reviews I purchased a large shirt and it fits perfectly.
