High quality short range
These seem to be a high quality. They are well made. They work great for short range. They also come with some pretty cool accessories. Overall they are great!!

More than a kids 'toy'! These are pretty awesome!
Technology and I really aren't friends, so please keep that in mind as you read this review. It isn't filed with specs or specific details, rather just the thoughts of a pretty average person (family) putting these to good use.The walkies arrived super quick. The box is colorful and branded (not plain cardboard), so if you give this set as a gift, the recipient will know exactly what is inside. Matter of fact, these are packaged up really nice, with everything protected and organized well. Unboxing is a 10/10.First thing I did was charge these up. Each walkie/battery comes with it's own charging cord (standard, USB-C) so all three can be charged together. Between the quick charge time (dead to full in less than 2 hours- even 6 months into use) and the fact that the battery lasts quite a while (it took us about 9+ hours over 5 days to completely drain the batteries), I am definitely impressed. The walkies are well made, and despite the colors, they do not feel like kids toys at all! They are lightweight- enough where they are easy to carry and don't choke you when they are on the lanyard, but not cheep feeling at all. They can also survive some unfortunate abuse. We have all dropped these, gotten them wet (not soaked or submerged, but wet enough where I was worried) and they have been banged around quite a bit, but they have survived it all- Thankfully. These are very easy to connect together (just set them to the same station), there is little to no feedback and the sound is VERY clear. Even with background noise (festival, beach, party, etc), the voice comes through crystal clear AND you don't have to yell into the walkie either.I really wanted to get a good range for these, but couldn't figure out the best way. I finally decided that I would send my daughter out, around the neighborhood and use G-Maps, the tracker on her phone and her reporting her position to get a good idea of the range. Now, this is in a neighborhood with houses and loads of fully grown trees, not in a wide open space. We could communicate very clear when she was .54 miles away. From .54 to .6, she was a bit spotty and then at .7, the signal had dropped. We also tried this at the beach house, and without all the trees, we were able to get just up to the 1 mile marker before we lost each other. I feel like, for this type of walkie (and at this price point), that is far beyond what I had expected and I am very pleased. These are one of those things that you don't realize how much you will use, until you have them. These are great for kids, but also adults too! They come in super handy when you don't want to be tied to a phone or there is spotty cell service. I do see that these are able to do a whole bunch of other things as well, but I haven't tried them. I can, 100% attest to the fact that this is a pretty awesome set that is beyond useful!

Work but no tone programmability
These appear to work pretty well. I purchased these because they looked identical to the retevis RB18s I already own. They are preprogrammed to not use any ctcss/dts tones which is good, but also they can't be programmed to work with ctcss/dts tones if you need that. I tried using chirp and the Retevis RB18 config setting and it looked like it worked, but couldn't communicate when on the same tone as my other radios.

As a new ham, my kids wanted a radio. The GT-18 was perfect!
Both my 3 year old son and 7 year old daughter is following in my footprints on everything. Recently I got into ham radio and purchased a few handhelds. Of course my rugrats wanted their own, but I did not want to get something cheap or simply a walkie talkie. I wanted something that gives my kids a learning curve into frequencies and channels. These are just perfect. I got them and automatically installed the belt clip, lanyard and even downloaded the program to easily put the NOAA channels ( along with ctcs codes on the frequencies we will be using ). My son had a blast with it. Wife and her mother was impressed as well. For the NOAA programming, it is a bit confusing, do not follow Baofengs instructions.1) you need a Baofeng program cable ( i already had one, thats how easy and fast i was able to program ).2) download the official program under the GT-18 section - https://www.baofengradio.com/pages/download , extract and install.3) highly urge to backup the default firmware, once the radio is plugged in an on, on the program, go to settings and choose port of where the program cable is connected to. read from device and click file and save.4) when you open the GT18 program the NOAA channels are already showing. Simply write to device and that is it.NOAA channels did not work indoors since these radios are low watt but works perfect outdoors.

Work well together but not with other radios.
Bought a set of these for kids while camping. They sound great and work very well when it is just the Gt-18s talking with each other. When I use my G11S radios to talk to them all they hear is a digital static noise. Both channels are the same and there are no TX or RX codes being used. Defeats the purpose of buying them if we can't use other radios with them.

Chinese below junk-grade FRS handi-talkies create massive disappointment
Charging is micro-USB not USB-C. This is unacceptable in 2024. This was likely a compromise so it could be sold as cheap Chinese junk. What is the point of 2 different PTT (push-to-talk) buttons? Make one of them a menu button! Chinese junk design! The flashlight is not bright enough to be of any use. Chinese junk design!DCS tones, CTCSS tones, VOX, power level, are all advertised settings - and for a modern FRS HT, are a must. Unfortunately there are not "really" included. They're only configurable by connecting a NON-INCLUDED data cable that connects to a PC with downloadable software.Advertised features, but truly not included? Chinese cost-cutting junk!Forcing me to download a closed-source, Chinese spyware software package to program features which should work OUT-OF-THE-BOX? Chinese spyware junk!Orange lanyard included, but without a molded mounting loop on the radio chassis to affix it to? Why? Cheap Chinese injection-molded design!Anyone catching a theme here?Save your money and buy something else!

Perfect for festivals!
The sounds quality was great and the signal strength must be strong because it never faded despite where in the festival(s) we were. Functionally sound and built to last surprisingly. They kept their charge for like three days straight and a voice reminds you to charge it when battery is low. Easy to use and fool proof way to keep all your side quest friends together!
