Really works!
I was one of the extras in The Chosen for the filming of the Feeding of the 5,000 (aka Feeding of the Fried Thousand š) I was on set (outside!) for two 10-12 hour days in late June = š„µš„µš„µ!!! Do you remember the level in Mario Bros where the sun āļø is trying to kill you? Yeah, we did the real life version those two days!We knew in advance that it would be 100 degrees with 50%+ humidity - and I donāt do well in the heat š so I agonized about what items to bring to help me - especially a UV blocking umbrella. This one claims to make it several degrees cooler underneath - and it DOES! It was definitely my most important protection from the sun and heat. It was perfect for covering just me - if you want to share, you should get a larger size. It was very sturdy too - when the wind would gust, sooo many peopleās umbrellas flipped outward and/or broke. The vents on this were perfect to let the wind through. Once I was accidentally holding sideways it so that it caught a direct blast of wind into the canopy which flipped it outward - but I immediately flipped it back and no damage had been done. The opening and closing mechanisms worked flawlessly for āCameraās up! Umbrellas down!ā too many times to count. In a perfect world, I wish it was a little more compact and lightweight when closed, but then I suppose it wouldnāt be as sturdy - which is more important in my opinion.Anyway! If youāre looking for an excellent UV umbrella that does what it says while also being small enough to travel with - congratulations! You found it!!!I also took an electric neck fan (the batteries lasted the entire day!), a wooden fan, a Frogg togg towel and a water mister. Most important was drinking plenty of water with electrolyte packets added.

Terrific Umbrella!
Having previously owned a uv ray blocking umbrella from the Breast Cancer Association (that I lost somewhere), I found this umbrella while looking to replace the other. The price was a bit formidable (had to talk myself into buying it) but now that I use it, I find it is definitely a good value for the money. My other umbrella was flimsy compared to this one. This has substantial weight to it and requires a good grip. As others have said, the handle is a bit awkward. But...despite that, I love this umbrella! I like that it has the Melanoma Association approval, a really dependable testimony to the effectiveness of the uv ray blocker. Having an illness that is exacerbated by uv rays, I feel that endorsement gives me confidence the product will work as advertised. Other umbrellas sold on Amazon just say they have uv protection, but with this umbrella, I have no doubt. The claim that it reduces the heat under the canopy by 15 degrees seems plausible to me. I really love the cover with the carrying ropes; it comes in handy. If you are looking for a genuine uv blocking umbrella that is sturdy and delivers what is promised, this is the umbrella you should buy.

Good for sun and rain
I chose this umbrella because it is not tiny, and I'm glad I did. The sleeve has cords, which make it easy to sling over my shoulder. Some may want a lighter umbrella. This one seems well-built, and I used it in both sun and rain.I recommend it to others.

Well made, effective, easy to operate, but heavy.
Very well package, seemingly well constructed product. Has embroidered logo on both the case & the umbrella itself. The addition of a shoulder strap to the case is nice because itās definitely got some weight to it for a ātravelā umbrella. It weighs more than twice as much as my standard travel umbrellas, and is bulkier both length and width wise. I did not find it any harder to open and close than any other umbrellas Iāve had, both functions were smooth. As far as shade and sun protection - I tried it out in the Phoenix sun on a 110 degree day in July and it does help, but I would say that making it 15 degrees cooler underneath is an exaggeration. It did seem more effective at absorbing/reflecting the baking heat than my standard umbrella that I was using for comparison, but for the $50 price tag - I should hope so, not as much difference as Iād expected though. I hope it holds up well over time to justify the price tag, because there were more affordable options, but seemed like they may be less durable from reviews.

This Umbrella was a Life Saver at my Eagle Nest!
I monitor golden eagle nests yearly for a research project on nest success/failure. This year I had a nest that had no shade, and unusually hot weather for our area. Since my viewing location was farther than the "safe" distance deemed proper for studying eagle nests without disturbing the nesting process, I was able to sit outside my truck in a chair with my spotting scope. My view area, however, had no trees for shade. I soon realized that sitting in 80 and 90 degree temperatures for 6-hours at a time was not only uncomfortable, but of course also unhealthy, even with my hat and sunblock. I decided to try this UV blocker umbrella, and what a success it was! This umbrella not only protected me from the sun's damaging effects, but it also really did drop the temperature. I can not attest to how much of a drop it was, but it felt like at least 10 degrees. The minute I opened the umbrella I could feel a noticeable change in the heat. As far as the wind goes, the baffles work quite nicely, but only if you aim the umbrella so that the wind does not blow into the interior of the umbrella. If you are holding it so that the wind blows into the umbrella, depending on how strong the wind is, it may turn the umbrella inside out. Not to worry, however, I had this happen 3-times due to unexpected wind gusts, and it snapped back into place, with no harm to the umbrella, when I turned the outside top of the umbrella toward the wind. I am not sure how much wind it can take, but one of the things we do is monitor the weather, including wind, and I have used it in gusty wind up to 15-MPR with no problems, as long as I angled it so that the gusts would not catch the inside. This umbrella was well worth the price. My only problem was holding it over my head, while writing in my research log book, and data sheet. A longer handle would have helped me out here, but most people won't have that issue.
