Super cool plane and mini figs, nearly perfect but golden wing blades aren't stiff enough
I bought this set back in February for $35, then got offered a set in the Vine program and couldn't pass up a second one. This is a very good set with a lot of good pieces, a great plane design once built, and some cool mini figs. Even at full retail of $40, it beats the average 10 cents/piece cost of a lot of sets. At the (as I write this) price of $32, I think it's quite a value. The build is mostly straightforward with a couple of more complex steps that involve the string that causes the wings to flip outwards (more below on that design). Those steps aren't actually difficult, but they involve snapping pieces into place that constrain the string within narrow channels, and younger kids might need help doing it without getting the string stuck or in the wrong place. Other than that, I found it to be a fairly simple build. A lot of steps involve multiple pieces, though, so the 9+ suggestion on the box is a good one.Once assembled, everything holds together well. The wings stick in place up against the body of the plane just through friction, but it works well - much better than I would have thought, actually. The string that I mentioned is connected to a central lever and to the two wings, so when you push the lever forward towards the cockpit, the wings swing outwards. You can snap that lever into another piece and lock the wings outwards. To be able to move them back inwards, you pull that lever backwards and push the wings in. It would have been cool if the lever also move the wings inwards, but it's still a really nice design feature. The mini figs are very cool to me. I just started buying Ninjago sets, so the characters are new to me. I think that they look very cool, and the snake figures are definitely different than any others that I have. The blue, black, and gold color scheme looks awesome to me, too.The one thing that I don't love are the gold "blades" on the underside of the wings. They are long and thin, and they aren't very stiff - so they bend a bit. You probably won't notice when the wings are flipped outwards because the blades are separated, but when you pull the wings up to the body of the plane, those blades are close together, and it becomes obvious when the two next to each other aren't straight. You can always just remove them and still have a very cool plane, or live with them being slightly out of line (but honestly it's not horrible). I just wish that they were stiffer and stayed in place better, but it's definitely not enough for me to drop the rating.Overall, definitely a five-star set.

Such a cool LEGO set!
This was a Christmas present for my 11yr old son and he was so excited! He had it built and together same day and its still complete and on display today. Sturdy pieces, easy to put together (caveat, my son builds a LOT of Legos so he knows what goes where, MAY seem a bit harder for a new builder)!!! Its a really cool jet that he took to school on show and tell day that was a "hit" in the class. A great build and fun still being had!
