It did what it was intended to do...
Got this for my guy who is restoring a 1996 Ford diesel. He needed this to lift the old motor out and put the new motor in. It worked great and he was quite please. Good quality for not a lot of dollars and did the job intended.

Essential tool
After fighting with trying to get my motor's flexplate to line up with the torque converter for days, I finally broke down and ordered this tool. Once I hooked it up, I had everything lined up and was bolting it together in less than an hour. You could get by without it with a standard trans, but with an automatic this tool is a necessity.

ok for small engine repair
The item worked as described, however just getting small pieces of chain that would not work for v-8's is a problem. I had to go to the hardware store and spend another 30$ to make it work. No adapter plates just chain pieces, really?? The handle spins off in the middle of the adjustment, poorly designed. OK if patient and not on the clock. But if I had to do it again, I would go with a better product ...

Does the job
No issues using this to pull the engine from my '03 Explorer. Like others have noted, the supplied chains were too short. Shipped quickly.

Was missing parts
In general, it's reasonable for the price though I wouldn't try to lift 4000 lbs with it. I needed to lift 1000 lbs and it was fine for that. Maybe 1500-2000 lbs. max. If lifting a ton, don't stand close. However, as it came from Amazon it was dangerous because as you can see from the photos, the steel rollers that allow the center lift point to move when cranked were missing on one side. It's ridiculous that they were left off because the circlips that hold them on were there, so someone had to install those without the rollers. Inexcusable, particularly since it's a safety issue. Fortunately, I have a lathe and it only took a few minutes to turn replacement rollers (that fit better than the original two). Also, the clevis at the top (attaches to the hoist) has far too much play, so I made some spacers to keep that centered. That's less of an issue, but still just sloppy. I gave it two stars for sturdiness because of the clevis. If I'd had the time it would've just gone back for the missing parts, but I needed it and they were easy to make because I have the machines to do it. Most people wouldn't.Like so many things made in China, they get 95% of the way to a decent product, but cutting a few corners or lousy quality control ends up ruining what could have been good with just a little more care.

was a great help
did a engine swap on a dodge ram 1500 this was great in helping to steady the engine and tilt it to slide in the trasmission and engine mount. I did change the chains out for longer ones to better secure the engine. The chains need to be longer then the ones provided

Not well built
I purchased the balance beam to remove an engine out of a car. This unit is not well designed or built. It did work for the purpose but was cumbersome. They handle shoulder bolt is wrong. They handle jams against the arm because the bolt is not long enough to properly seat on the arm. The handle arm keeps coming loose on the threaded rod. This is a poor design. There should've been a locking pin or lock not to hold the handle arm onto the threaded rod. When I put my engine back in place I will modify this correct the issues.
