Great value
Highly recommend as a means of achieving a large, characterful old container for the garden without the ludicrous price tag of other antique options!Lovely, solid old half barrel. Very rusty- which is part of the charm as far as I’m concerned - and very heavy ( obviously) so don’t do what I did and find yourself having to roll it through the house, distributing rust everywhere, to get it to where I wanted it! The guy delivering made it look light. But it’s not. Duh. Now filled with compost it’s not moving anywhere but looks great with just a couple of small shrubs in as a starting point; I’m going to stuff lots of other things in as well. That’s the joy of a really big container. I may well get another.Great seller, very helpfully put some drainage holes in before sending, which I much appreciated.

Large, sturdy and good value
Exactly as described. This is a genuine half-barrel, pre-used and pre-weathered. Great if you want something sturdy and functional, rather than something decorative. It still smells faintly (but definitely) of alcohol - not a problem for me as it was always going to be used outdoors. It now provides a roomy 'home' for a 7 foot yucca tree that I don't want to put into the ground just yet. This barrel was less expensive than the alternatives I found. Would recommend.

Great as planters
Very sturdy half-barrels. Great size, perfect as garden planters. Once they're full of soil and plants, these are not going anywhere.Yes, they are very rusty and look 'distressed', but the description says that quite clearly, and that look is exactly what I want.Very pleased with these barrels.

Perfect for the patio or terrace
I have just moved to a house with a terrace. It was very stark and bare. I bought several of these barrels in different sizes to plant firstly with spring bulbs and then later with blueberries and strawberries. Even with no planting showing as yet they look pleasant and have made the terrace look less austere.

Better than expected
I LOVE these! Bought two of them and they arrived more quickly than expected. They are very heavy and very tough. The whisky smell from them both is an added bonus! Each one took three bags of compost to fill as they are so huge. The wood has to be watered daily to prevent it drying out and falling apart, but this is not a problem as we are watering the plants in them anyway. I have put my two acers in them and they look fabulous. I highly recommend these. I'm thinking of getting another one for the front of the house.

Great container for trees and shrubs
I bought a large barrel in order to repot a 6 foot oramental Acer later in the autumn,as the cost of replacing my preferred choice of a terracotta pot was astronomical and way beyond my budget. The barrel is well-made and just as described and will look good when planted up with a red-leafed tree, but I nearly invalidated the guarantee by not realising that it must not be allowed to dry out.The instructions for maintenance were concealed at the inner base of the barrel under the copious layers of plastic wrapping,so could easily be overlooked if one was not going to plant up immediately,as in my case.I have now filled it with water and am using it as an open butt to dip into for hand-watering until it is time to drain it out and fill with compost. So PLEASE make instructions more obvious.
