Works Well
Well it seems to work well. Only issue I have is oil simply soaks away and quickly. Maybe someday with enough use that will slow or stop.

Good starting stone, unfortunately not labelled. Ideal gift for guys with dull knives.
Small and nimble, awesome for kitchen knives in combination with a 1000, 4000, and 8000. 100 is a lot better for removing material than 200 - using 200 to start on a dull knife was slow and dreadful. Only thing wrong with it is that the grit isn't labelled, but assuming you don't forget that it's a 100/300, it's not exactly a mystery which is which. This is a perfect gift for guys.

Abrasive Flaws
This is an inexpensive hand oil stone for crude work and crude tools. It is not for fine woodworking. I bought it to use in an emergency with a set of Marples chisels. It is a combination stone with two grits labeled only as "Course" and "Fine". The package does not specify the material of the stone and does not label the grits. Through some fingernail testing I identified the brown side as course, but that ain't the way it should be. Norton should identify the grits and their composition; the information on the package is woefully lacking. A novice could have a really hard time getting an edge. Worse yet, the Norton website does not describe this stone. Norton makes some of the best sharpening gear in the world. I think this product is just not important to them. Ok enough of that, how does it work? First , buy the sharpening oil - the stone soaked up several ounces before I could start on an edge. The course side cut fast and clean; the stone surface is hard (synthetic) and flat. The fine side cut fast and left a surface that while not mirror like was smooth and shiny. I had a decent edge in about 5 minutes, easily good enough for my application. Buy this stone for your coarser outdoor tools, kitchen scissors or carpentry blades; get a more sophisticated system for your hand planes and mortising chisels.
