Conflicting Instructions and Info So Must Know Math Before Heating
My RamblingsLike everyone, I am not a polar bear and I want my pool to be warmer earlier and later in the season so our family can enjoy it more and longer. So Let’s take a look at this fancy heat pump.To the Point or TL;DRCouple of different install options, Conflicting instructions, Fairly straight forward as far as actually connecting it, Works and Will heat water (results may vary), Not very loud, Some restrictions on locations. Be sure to use piping rated for pressure (schedule 40 will do), Hard pipe it or flex pipe it. Would I install it myself again… maybe.Product Features/Details (How it's Made, What's In It)Heat Pump with Titanium tube heat exchanger. Model: KSPF-005L3R1A1; BTU: 16,000; COP range: 3.0-4.3; Power: 110-120v/60Hz, 7.1 Amps, 781-852 watts; Refrigerant: R410A/15.90 ozs; Water Flow GPM: 7.2; Noise: 50 dB(A); Weight: 66 lbs; 1-1/4 O.D. pvc connectors. The Good StuffSeveral install options: hard pipe or flex (be sure it is pressure rated). Can be looped into a current pump or stand alone with a separate pump. Instructions for both. Has a long electrical cord with a GFCI breaker built in. Also nice is it just plugs into a 110 outlet and draw less than 8 amps. This heats water (haven’t tried the cooling mode nor do I want to). Depending on the size of your pool and water temp, and when the moon is in Aquarius, and blah blah will determine just how long that takes. Run some numbers using online calculators for BTU’sThe Info StuffCOP is Coefficient Of Performance for Heat Pumps. And you say… So? Short version: the higher the COP the cheaper it is to boil water or heat your pool. Example: 1,000 w Heat pump with 4.3 COP will give us 4,300 w worth of heat.BTU’s: I’m not going to touch BTU calcs. Look it up. Lots of calculators.Freezing: It’s a heat pump. They do that sometimes, especially when it is cold outside. Let it thaw. It’ll be alright. OR it has lost it’s Freon, in which case it won’t be alright. Just saying. The Bad StuffLots of confusing stuff. First the tag on side of heat pump says water flow is 7.2 GPM (432 GPH) but the instructions say need pump greater than 12 GPM (720 GPH) and on the landing page it says “recommended with a flow rate range of 1,500 GPH-2,000 GPH” So… 7.2 max or >12 ???Who May Use/Like ItThose wanting a warmer (or cooler) pool water.Me Final ThoughtsHave a pro do the calcs, install, and warranty it. I’m a huge do it myself person, but this drove me a little nuts. I just want warmer water. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Hope it helps! All the best, Just BenjaminReviewed: Brand: Varpoolfaye Cost: $559.99 at time of review.Pool Heaters for Above Ground Pool 16000 BTU Swimming Pool Heater Pump 5000 Gallon Heating or Cooling Mode WiFi Control Timer 120V 60Hz

Does not work as advertised.
Use this on my 15 ft above ground pool. When outside temperature dropped below 70° f the unit froze up into a big ice chunk and would not put out hot water. I will be returning this for a refund.

VarPoolFaye Pool Heater for Above Ground Pool 16000 BTU
Works as promised! I've tried other heaters and they died or reduced function way too soon. I kept putting off this review waiting for something to happen, but after 3 weeks of every-other-day use it is still performing well and as expected.I have this on a 5x8 Intex pool (about 500gallons) and it raises the water temp 7 degrees in about 2 hours. That's enough to take the edge off the Spring coolness and continues to heat so that I can get almost hot tub like temps. This does sweat a lot/ produce a lot of condensation in south Florida with the humidity, currently about a quart an hour drips off/ out of the heat exchanger. At first I thought it was leaking, but it only produces water when warming, no issues with water when the pump is flowing through without the unit on. I got a 24" hot water tank heater and drain line to overcome this as the pool is inside an enclosed porch, not outside where it could run off into the lawn. The parts supplied are decent quality. The instructions are overly complicated with poorly translated technical terms, but the installation is simple, line in, line out. You do have to maintain space around the unit for air to flow and larger space (72") the direction the fan faces. There is no pool hose included, you need that separately to install. It's not perfect, but the small issues don't drop this a star to me.

Hot Tub Vibes Minus the Tub
This pool heater turned our chilly dip into a backyard escape. Fired it up and in just a couple hours the water went from “nope” to “heck yeah.” The WiFi control means I can turn it on while I’m still in bed and have the pool ready before anyone even grabs a towel. It’s super quiet too—I thought it wasn’t working at first ‘til I felt the water warming up. The digital controls are easy to figure out, and once I got the settings dialed in, it was just plug-and-play every time. Doesn’t matter if it’s fresh or salt water—it holds temp like a champ. We hosted a little night swim last weekend and nobody wanted to get out. I also like that it cools too, so come summer I’m not stuck with bathwater vibes. Installation took less than 30 minutes with the hookups provided. Now I don’t wait for weather. I set the vibe and jump in.

Works great!
This 16,000 BTU pool heater pump is an excellent option for maintaining a comfortable temperature in above-ground pools up to 5,000 gallons. It supports both heating and cooling modes, giving you full control over your water temperature regardless of the season. The unit runs on standard 120V/60Hz power and is energy-efficient compared to gas alternatives. One of the standout features is the built-in WiFi control and timer, which lets you adjust settings and schedule heating or cooling cycles remotely through your phone—super convenient for planning ahead. The unit operates quietly and starts working quickly once installed. Overall, this is a solid, user-friendly solution for extending your swim season and maintaining your pool’s comfort level with minimal effort.
