Basic but works fine
I have a small cabin and this more than covers it, extending stream well beyond. I did have to secure it to the roof, but for what it is and the price, it's fine. The stream volume is not as high compared to other types, so if I have time prior to need, I figure an hour of use should offer good saturation of surrounding grounds. The roof and (gutters) will be saturated in pretty short order though.I'm keeping it on roof and ready through entire season, packing away in the Fall.

Saved our homes.
Raging wildfires in our area. Within 1,000 feet on 2 sides. Burning embers and high winds. These placed on the roofs stayed solid and kept the roofs and surrounding areas damp. Extreme peace of mind. Easy to pack up. I bought these for 3 children's homes as a christmas present 3 years ago. Guess what they got to play with this year? I'm not so crazy anymore, am I? I am buying 4 more to increase coverage for the 4 homes. We used 3-4 each. Separate hose for each. No slinky hoses! Buy a few spare hose washers and zip tie them to the sprinklers when storing. Washers get lost easily, a few spares are an easy fix.

If you’re worried about fire Buy this
We live in a fire prone area and I want to do all I can so be bought two of these. They cover our entire roof area and shoot out about 15 additional feet. My only wish is that they circulated quicker. I feel if an ember were to get on the roof, the sprinkler may take too long to make a pass. We have ours connected with bare hoses. I would suggest running your hose through a pipe or strong PVC for some added protection from the sun etc. It took 3 hoses to set it up. Put a double faucet at your main source of water and then you can always have your sprinklers hooked up and still use your faucet for other things. You don’t want to be switching hoses, in an emergency. These are stable enough to even set out in your yard or further from your house, to create a wet barrier & stave off a grass fire.

DEFECTIVE - Roof Sprinkler Stopped Working After 2 Months (see video)
The media could not be loaded. I’ve contacted the company that makes this but never received a reply. If/when they reply, I will update this review.I purchased this roof sprinkler a while back but finally got around to ripening the box and installing it on our roof earlier this summer. It worked perfectly at first and then one day two months later, while testing it I noticed that the sprinkler itself has stopped working — it no longer rotates around in a circle spraying water. I tested it about once every week or so over the summer and it worked as expected for about two months, then it quit working correctly. See video…We live in a wildland interface area adjacent to a national forest in the California foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Like most Californians, we live in constant fear of our house being taken in a wildland fire, especially if we aren’t home to set hoses and wet down our home and property ourselves. So we purchased this rooftop sprinkler to buy some peace of mind, especially when we are away (see my setup below and an in the video). I was very pleased after installing this, as it worked perfectly as expected out of the box. But I guess the California direct sunlight and heat took its toll on the rain bird mechanism, as it failed about two month from installation. GIVEN WHAT IT’S MEANT TO PROTECT, THIS IS A PRODUCT THAT SHOULD BE ENGINEERED TO WORK EVERY TIME ITS DEPLOYED, AND FOR YEARS. When you need it to work, it’s an emergency, and it must not fail.I got up on the roof to inspect it after it failed. The “rain bird” mechanism seems to be made cheaply and it stopped rotating and pushing the water out correctly. Note this isn’t made by the Rainbird company. I have other similar sprinklers and the old ones made of brass and stainless steel are still rock solid dependable 40 years after they were made. Unfortunately, many products are manufactured by the lowest bidder overseas these days to save a few cents/bucks, and the reliability is compromised — it seems to be the case here. That may be fine for many products, but not something like this. There are others on the market, and I’m not sure if those are any better… I may just try to make my own, sourcing better components if I can’t get a reliable replacement from this company. I’m hoping they are using better components now and will replace this defective unit so I can update this review with something positive to say.MY SETUP: I installed this on the ridge line of my roof in the dead center. When it was working, the spray pattern reached the entire roof (30’ x 50’) and also overlapped a bit onto my decks and ground. It worked great, at first, and I was really pleased after installing it. I had to order some narrow nylon sand bags with Velcro straps that I placed on either side to weigh it down, as I had noticed it would move when in operation which isn’t good given it’s remote location on the roof (not easy to get up there and reset it). The sandbags worked perfectly to hold it in place and keep it from moving in strong winds. I think they should include sand bags, but that’s another matter. It’s connected to a stainless steel hose that withstands the direct sun and heat. That hose is run down off the roof to a hose bib where it’s connected to a Rachio WiFi hose controller that can be turned on/off remotely via my smartphone anywhere in the world. I also installed a brass vacuum breaker as required by code.I should note that I purchased this item a couple of years ago, but I only got around to installing it at the beginning of summer/fire season. It sat new in the box until then, and again, it worked great for two months before it failed and kept on failing. It was only turned on for testing, about once a week or so.

Hail Mary effort
No more output than a regular impact sprinkler. In a windy situation, and a lot of california fires make their own windstorm, this water wouldn’t hit the roof. However, pretty easy to put on the roof and would wet the roof in anticipation of a fire

Needs improvement
I like this product except the sprinkler head itself has no adjustments. I will buy a set of sprinklers that have proper adjustments for distance, elevation, and rotation.A good example is YAMATIC 1/2 Inch Brass Impact Sprinkler Head, Heavy Duty Sprinkler Head with Nozzles, Adjustable 20° to 360° Circle Pattern

Well made, easy to set up and does what it is suppose to do.
This product is exactly what I was looking for. It is very easy to set up, the product is durable and works perfectly. It delivers a smooth adjustable jet of water and the brass rain bird has a quality feel to it. I get good coverage with one sprinkler but will probably need one more for 100% coverage due to a large roof area. This sprinkler gives me a good feeling knowing that there is something on my roof that could help in the event of a fire. My house is located in a forest setting. I have it attached to a 50' stainless steel hose that runs down the backside of the house with the other end of the hose attached directly to a side faucet. Makes for turning water on and off easy. Should last for many years. At first I thought it to be a bit pricy but after seeing how easy and secure it is to set up and how well it preforms, it is worth the cost. Recommended!
