Helpful aid
This is very helpful. It leaves the seat as it was versus raising it 5" with an insert that has arms. Stability is fine in terms of safety but there is some play due to the snap together legs. It will wiggle an inch or less right and left but provides plenty of safety. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. It just takes a little getting used to. Arms raise for removing items like trash cans when installed in in tight places. Got them for my disabled wife but I too (78 year old) find them helpful. Really like the way the seat is just as before installation.

My mother had a different model that slipped under the toilet seat on the front end. The problem was that this other model resulted in the seat pinching and bruising her thigh. Therefore, we purchased this Drive Medical frame. This Drive Medical model was a little wobbly at first but we installed the Stander Security Pole (Iceberg White) (purchased on Amazon) on the right side of the toilet and tied the right front leg of the Drive Medical Toilet Frame to this Stander pole. This stabilized the Drive frame. My mother also knows to depends on the right side more than the left side. My mother is petite and thin. The top of these handles were too high for her while the lower half of the handles did not allow enough leverage. The Drive frame legs have 5 different height settings, however, we needed to adjust this lower than the lowest setting which resulted in the top bar slanting downward a bit. This worked and she likes this new frame. This frame also has 2 settings on the back bar to change the width, we used the narrower setting.

DEATH TRAP!
NOT for full figured senior women! Although the product states that it can handle up to 300lbs I wonder if they actually tested that theory because most 300 lbs people aren't thin as a rod. I brought this for my very elderly grandmother who suffered a stroke and needs support on the right side of her body. She was able to use it once without much assistant so I was so sure she could finally use the toilet in privacy....wow was I wrong. Very soon I hear panicked cries coming from the locked bathroom door. I had break the door knob to get to my grandmother who's very full figured was trapped in this madness. It took over two hours to get her out of this and I have never felt more horrible in my life! I sent this away to senior care center where perhaps a more petite grandparent can get some use out of it as it's a nice idea but not ideal for full figured grandmothers.

It helped my wife's sister and brother
We bought this frame for my wife's sister who was recovering from knee replacement surgery. She told us that it did help her. It's not meant to be solidly rigid like grab bars fastened to the wall, especially with sideways loads, but she found it worked well to provide her with that bit of extra support she needed in getting up and down. Kind of like a walker helps to stabilize a person. And because the support is on both sides of you and equally in line with your direction of motion, I think this tends to work better than a single grab bar mounted on the wall as in handicapped restroom stalls. The frame is supposed to be rated at 300 pounds weight capacity. While I can't vouch for the 300 pound maximum capacity, I can say that it should support most adults. If you have any doubts about load bearing, position a helper to assist a new user until they get comfortable with going on their own. I think most people, even those who are weight-endowed, will find they do OK once they get used to it.The frame is attached to the toilet using the same bolts that hold the seat on and it was easy to attach - just unscrew the nuts on the seat bolts, lift the seat off, place the safety bar frame on the toilet and reattach the seat with the bolts passing through a bracket on the safety bar frame. All the hardware lined up fine and the bars themselves are height and width adjustable so unless you have a really weird shaped toilet you shouldn't have any problems.Updated April 2018 - My wife's brother used this when he had knee replacement surgery and also found it to be a helpful aid for getting on and off the toilet. I had a chance to use it and I did notice the wobble in the supports that other reviewers have commented on. This might be a problem for people who are especially frail or who have noticeable balance problems. For most people, though, it should work OK if it's only being used for a bit of extra support as they recover from surgery such as joint replacement. I reduced my evaluation from 4 stars to 3 because I think the designers could have done a better job of making the supports less wobbly.

Works well. Easy to Install.
Had hip replacement surgery and this device has been invaluable. It may seem a bit wobbly, but I'm 290 lbs. and it's plenty sturdy for helping me lower myself onto the toilet, and in bearing my weight in standing up. Installation is very easy.

Makes for a very comfortable and secure landing...
After I had ordered this unit, I found that it was the same one used in the rehab center I spent a week in after my Hip Surgery. The arms are a little wobbly from side to side, but they are very comfortable and seem reliable and safe when being used under a vertical load. I had no problem mounting this unit in combination with a raised toilet seat, and like that the legs will swing up a bit for cleaning around the toilet. On my commode, the height is just a bit low for the available settings so the arms are at a slight angle. I only noticed this during setup, but this does not affect use. If you have your TP mounted on a cabinet right next to the toilet, you may find that sneaking it through the arm loop has a bit of a learning curve, but seems to work well overall.
