SEWING FOR FASHION DESIGNERS Hardcover – 6 April 2015

I discovered this book by sheer chance while browsing on Amazon India. Over the years I have purchased many books on sewing, pattern drafting, tailoring, fabric guides, construction, etc. Must say this is one extremely helpful design and sewing guide that I have ever come across. Before I start practising some of the techniques, I decided to do a complete reading of the whole book. I am familiar with some of the processes since I do sew, so it wasn't that difficult to grasp the matter. Learning some of the contemporary techniques was a real eye opening experience. This book is so informative, with great knowledge; using looks to highlight examples from the runway collections in the recent years is smart. What you appreciate is the way the information is spread out and categorised into different chapter with tips on everything, that's needed before you start a project. I can't wait for there to be a part 2, so we can learn more about new age materials that spells modern. Here's hoping the author doesn't keep us waiting. For those who haven't been to design school like me, such books are a blessing. If you are wondering how to sew with lace, latex or neoprene, it's all here. The only drawback I guess is, and that maybe because of my inexperience, I wish there were more and clearer pictures when you learn about 'notched collar with fusible interfacing' or 'lining a jacket', one could get lost following 'tailored waistband with zip guard'. I'm hoping I don't have a hitch when I eventually try.
