Great value works like a champ
Great Chronograph kit. All you need is a 9 volt battery to run it. The free app works great with my Android (Droid turbo2). Create a template in the app ie 308 165 amax and hit start. It will record your shots until you hit save or start new group. The template allows for notes so it is easy to and the powder charge or other note to help refer to targets when working up ocw/ladder tests. You can even take a photo through the app of your target and save with the data. Email or text the data as well.Set up is easy. Measure off 10 feet from muzzle, place the unit (a cheap laser bore sight helps verify bullet path ) following the instructions (you tube) connect the included cable to your phone and enter the set up data (distance to unit, it will do the math and calculate true MV, average, spread, energy etc and if Internet available will automatically add temperature and barometric pressure)The screen is easy to read from the bench although your phone is really the best part. It will notify you if duplicate fps and display error messages if it doesn't read a shot. I had no problem getting every shot calculated at 10 feet from bench, 100 yards and targets posted in a 3 foot wide. The 9 volt battery used about 1/2 it's power over a 6 hour period. The app displays battery.... Worked from early morning Foggy overcast through noon day sun and shade in the afternoon. I did not use the powered IR screens but are included with kit. Tripod is light but does the job. The included bag is just right to hold Everything. As for readings it had no issues with 55 grain 223, from 2600-3180 fps. 308 2500-2700 fps.If using the app, be sure to hit start initiate recording of data. Otherwise the chrono displays last shot fired on its screen. My benchrest buddys were impressed with the $100 kit. It's invaluable when trying to duplicate a good shooting factory load or see what small changes in charge or seating depth has on speed. It also verifies consistancy of your loads.I put close to 100 rounds over it so far and the only time I didn't get a reading was 100%my fault as i changed point of an relative to my bench position. A quick slide back on line and all was good.I have used a barrel mounted Chronograph at almost 4 times the cost of this kit but it was a pain to keep aligned and it affected impact. None of that with the Caldwell.Get one you'll love it..... Don't shoot it ;)

Perfect fit for home reloading.
For the money I am very happy with this Chronograph. Yes the case is plastic and the tripod is a little flimsy. But for the money it is well worth it. It wouldn't connect to my iPhone 6+ until first pairing it to an old android for some reason. It worked perfectly for 80 rounds after that, no problems. The app is great. It saves time of writing everything down and is easy to use. The case is plastic and might break if it took a hard fall, but this is a sensative piece of equipment. And should be treated as such. The tripod is a little light for the job of supporting the weight of the chrono but not by much. It held up just fine. It just doesn't feel 100% rigid. I plan on testing for accuracy at the same time so I will not have it set up on windy days so I am fine with the tripod. All in all, for the money, this chronograph is great. Think about how much you will actually use this. Most people will use it only a few times a year, like me, to work up a new load or two. Don't blow a fortune on a chrono when you can use that cash to add to your firearm collection. It works, it's affordable.

I have to start with Amazon customer service which is GREAT. This kit arrived with good packaging and no apparent damage until I tried to assemble the unit on the tripod. First issue was the locking lever on the tripod mounting base was broken, but this was minor and easily repaired with a bit of epoxy. Tripod was still flimsy as are most tripods that come as a part of any kit. Problem was on the first trip to the range the actual mount of the tripod failed and caused the unit to fall to the ground. Prior to this event the unit functioned very well and appeared to give very rapid and consistent readings. Velocities measured on 223 Remington were right on par with manufacturers published velocities, and hand loads were reading right in line with the expected published data, so I rate the unit at 4+ stars based on the first day's use. I can't say the same for the tripod which was the whole purpose of buying the "kit" as opposed to simply the chronograph unit. So here is where I must give credit to amazon, One call and the issue was resolved and a new unit is on the way. The one thing that I do not know at this time is if the unit was damaged from the fall when the tripod failed. Hopefully I will be able to test this when the new one arrives and make an update to this review as to the ruggedness of the unit itself. So in a nutshell the chrono itself seems to live up to my expectations, but I am not sure if I would recommend the "kit" due to the poor quality of the tripod on which the unit depends on to function in an open range environment.

Excellent product as always thanks caldwell
I was skeptical at first when looking at this product how can something so. Reasonably priced be so good. I have several. Caldwell. Items and love those so I figured what the heck.Day 1 of testing reloads I setup the unit turned it on lined it up with my shooting rest and gun.I fired 4 rounds it read every single shot without missing a single 1I did 5 strings of 4 shots it caught every one of the shots I'm like wow this is impressive.Day 2 testing reloads I set it up and followed the same protocolFired a string of 4 shots it caught every one of themFired a string of 5 still doing really wellIt has an error 3 that comes up often but it just means failed to read between shots fired so no big deal there the barometric pressure and temp is really accurate I like that feature wasn't sure if it would be accurate but it seems to beonly had it miss 2 rounds I fired out of 40 rounds through the chronographBut still this setup. Is light weight compact easy to setup it comes with a 15' headphone jack cord and a free app to record all your data I think this thing rocks!!!!
