Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots.

Interesting
Not the greatest film in the world but enjoyable. The acting from the three main characters is excellent. I will probably watch it again sometime in the future. Thank you.

A bit disappointing
Beautifully filmed, splendid settings, but the dialogue for me leaves a lot to be desired.

A very good factual movie ...
A very well produced movie and it turns out that Queen Anne was a bit of a "not very good monarch" for her time, and was more often than not under the influence of others who were out for their own gain. The leading female actress who plays Queen Anne is very good in fact excellent in the part (pardon me I forget her name), and the supporting are also very good, was quite a revolting time to be in at that time in history. These folks must have ponged to high heaven as cleanliness was a luxury. But all in all is a good movie.

Superb dark comedy
Watched this last night. A rather enjoyable romp that is a little tongue in cheek, but worth the Oscar Ms Coleman received. Discard any preconceptions of a bodice ripper and sit back to enjoy britches, beauty patches and high heels .... that is just the men, towering wigs, nudity and duck racing, this film has it all. Dark and funny it's well worth the watch. But now I find myself not keen to go near those ornamental vases now I have seen that!!

Drama Queenery.
This is absolute nonsense from beginning to end. Produced by the Film4 apparatchiks using public money, they are gifted, although they insist they're not, a substantial amount of licence fee revenue to fund their subversive productions, which this film most certainly is.Cultural marxism once again attempting to rewrite history. Queen Anne was not a lesbian which has been proven by many leading historians. They add a tiny soupçon of fact, however, it's all part of the right on agenda of these people to twist historical fact, which with this film they have done in spades. They've essentially taken outrageous liberties with much of the factual values of the period, including the exaggerated costumes which bare no actual resemblance to clothes worn by the persons depicted. About the only thing they correctly portrayed was Queen Annes ill health! A large liberty has been taken in the name of inaccuracy by the makers and participants of this abomination. They should be ashamed of themselves. I doubt that they are.

Olivia Colman is brilliant
I read so many reviews where people were saying they walked out of the film. I really don't know why. I thought is was excellent with little to feel offended by. The only sex scenes were 4 bare bums and one bare breast, certainly saw more in Game of Thrones. Very p[leased I bought it.
