Easy to use, fast and it [STiLL] WORKS!!!
This tiny device is what I am using to get my older desktop hard drives (HDs) working so I can pull the data off them. The converter arrived yesterday, and I even got data off one drive that dates back to when I owned my very first digital camera, the DCS520!! It works fast and effectively, and it's EASY to operate, plus comes with all cables needed to use the HDs!! The HDs I plugged into the converter were 2 SATA drives, and the other ones being 2 older 3.5" IDE drives. At first I was hesitant plugging the IDE into it as the pins didn't line up. Plug the drive into the unit, plug in the supplied four pin power adapter, and the drives starts to spin, and I can see the partitions I created on that older IDE drive!! All four drives worked flawlessly and quickly on my win10 DELL laptop! Though the provided instructions gave other directions for removing the drive(s), I just ejected the drive, then turned off the unit, and pulled out the drive, and in the case of it being an IDE drive, I removed the power adapter cable too. Do not turn on your desktop/laptop with a boot (or any) drive plugged in; it will not boot up. Connect your drives AFTER booting up. It is so easy to use!!!2019 November update: Still using this on an occasional basis BUT it reads my older internal hard drives (HDs) previously mounted inside a desktop. Quick and reliable, THIS is the best piece of computer gear I have ever purchased!!!

Praise for Customer Support
The converter worked as advertised, and I was able to access old IDE drives. I also tested with SATA drives and even with two CD drives salvaged from old desktops. They worked. Then a strange event took place: A week later, I connected the converter and everything seemed to be dead. No sign of attached drives, and not even a light on the converter showing a connection. I finally isolated the power supply as the culprit. I attached another power supply with similar characteristics, and the unit functioned as expected. To verify, I attached the original power supply again, and, again, no sign of life from the attached drive.I wrote the Ugreen help line, as mentioned in the product leaflet. About a week later I received a reply explaining how to connect an IDE drive. I verified that the way I connected the drive in my tests was correct. I re-staged the tests and took pictures of the setup to send to the support line, and, just to make triple-sure, I tested the connection again. THIS TIME, IT WORKED, and with the original power supply.I am at a loss to explain the supernatural results, but I was going to write Ugreen again to withdraw my original request. THEN, TO MY SURPRISE, I RECEIVED ANOTHER EMAIL, from Kaya at [email protected], checking to see whether I was still experiencing the problem.I will send Kaya this Amazon review with the highest praise for her attention, and stating that she has acquired a loyal Ugreen customer. In the future, if I look for a product and see a Ugreen option, I will choose it without delay.

Perfect Combination of Price and Reliability
I needed to be able to access the hard drive from a defunct desktop system, so I started looking around for an adapter that could power the hard drive as well as access its data. I found a couple of cheaper solutions within Amazon but they had too many poor reviews about their reliability and quality of manufacture. So I decided to go with this UGreen at around $28. It was the perfect choice! It worked right out of the box, and even came with instructions (although you don't really need any). I think if I had gone cheaper I would have wasted my money.

Convenient Time Saver
Needed this to replace cheaper unit from different manufacture that failed. Old unit worked out of the box for what I needed, went to use it 3 years later and NG. Saves so much time testing/ copying and not having to remove/ install hard drives. Tried this uGreen on 3.5 SATA and 3.5 IDE drives and worked flawlessly - after a bit. Also like presence of On/ Off switch AND absence of OTB (1 touch backup) button, as it was way too easy to accidentally depress that on Kingwin unit. These units are small, several connections and a lot of handling to hookup. Why only 4 stars? Clear but tiny print on very basic instruction pamphlet, and the operation is sensitive to the order in which the connections are made. Didn't work the first time I tried it, then followed directions, in order, and JOY. Worked on Windows 7 Pro, XP and VISTA Home machines. As for reliability - only had it a few days.

What a tool! So happy I got it!
What a life saver! I found 4 IDE drives, two of which I knew were from an OOOOOLD build and another two that I was unfamiliar with, so I got this device. All four drives came to life, all four were astonishingly noisy and heated up QUICK, in fact those two factors were so severe I didn't even leave the house as I pulled files for fear of fire. No joke, I could have cooked an egg on one and two more were so hot, I used a tshirt to grab them and move them to a pyrex to cool down prior to tossing. The egg cooker really scared me, an old seagate 300G, that when I realized how hot it was getting, moved on to a metal plate during offload because I was literally afraid it would scorch my desktop (some decent oak plank I repurposed, planed and stained). The really nice thing were the two sorta-hotties were from my FIRST pc build and I was able to pull a lot of old scanned actual developed photographs, talk about blast from the past. OK, BOTTOM LINE, none of this has anything to do with this device, except that the device worked as intended at surprisingly high speed (IDE kids, everything is relative) and provided an unexpectedly successful service I feel was absolutely worth the price. I tested it on some old 1TB sata drives that had some random crap on them and worked great there too. SO, do you have old IDE drives thaqt you want to, at the very LEAST, check the contents of before tossing? OR, do you have a lot of sata drives lying around (and if you are reading this review, you prooooobably do), this is a great device. I will keep for future use. For me? Worth the price and would buy again if lost, or even as a gift.
