Aaron Copeland Music Conducted by Aaron Copeland
It's Aaron Copeland conducted by Aaron Copeland. If you like Aaron Copeland's music you will enjoy this. If you're expected the Emerson, Lake & Palmer version of Fanfare for the Common Man you will be disappointed.

Excellent CD!
This is a really fine recording and performance! I collect classical CDs and this rivals many of the SACDs I have. A must CD for a collector.

A direct line from mind to music
There is no opportunity to hear Beethoven or Mozart conducting their own works, so one must hear modern interpretations of the music, and no-one can say which performance most closely matches what was imagined by the composer. We are fortunate, however, to have surviving recordings of Stravinsky and Copland conducting their own works, and we can listen to those works purely and directly from the mind of the composer through the orchestra under his control. Of course, we often fall in love with the first performance we hear of a favorite piece, so perhaps Copland's interpretation isn't how you remember it. But it is the standard by which all other performances should be judged. These are wonderful recordings of groundbreaking music, and you would be remiss to pass up this opportunity to hear exactly what Copland meant.

Excellent Copeland
Before purchasing this CD recently, I had the old vinyl album. Very nice recording. Don't let it's age, or it's being an analog recording, turn you off. Copeland conducts the music the way he wanted in played, which is something we rarely get to hear in this day and age. (When's the last time you heard an CD of Beethoven conducting his 9th Symphony? I rest my case.)His choice of orchestration as well as the selections are a good cross-selection of Copeland, of whom I had the pleasure of hearing perform some of these selections live back in the 70's.This is a very nice addition to your library, and if you're like me, I suspect you will find yourself playing many of the selections again and again.

Excellent renditions by Copland himself.
How could you go wrong with Aaron Copland conducting Appalachian Spring? I know that there are other works here, but Appalachian Spring has been one of my favorite classical works since I was a teenager. It is just plain beautiful. It is like waking up in the Smoky Mountains.

I adore all of this music and I love this particular recording of it.
First of all, it's a great document of Copland himself conducting his own music, and he does a fine job of it.This CD also introduced me to Copland's "Old American Songs" which are really beautiful. You also get here two of pieces that Copland is best known for - Appalachian Spring and Fanfare For The Common Man.Another thing that I have come to love about this recording is the magnificent singing of William Warfield. Warfield is as great as any singer of his genre and is, in my mind, greatly underrated.

Copland on Copland!
Bought this to hear how Copland the composer would be interpreted by Copland the conductor and was NOT disappointed. Copland was an American master!!! This one is a rare treat that will be a welcomed addition to any Copland CD collection! Thanks, Amazon!
