If you're on the fence about replacing your Floyd Rose Special, do it now.
Fixed all the tuning stability issues with the FR Special and problems I was having with the saddles stripping the winding off of wound strings. No fear of divebombs flatting out strings.Do note: while most of the geometry is the same, to get this to fit properly I had to replace the trem arm as the Gotoh arm post was too long and was preventing the trem from pulling back (I cannibalized the FR S "hot rod" arm from my Schecter). Shorter may also be necessary to get this to fit in the routed hole in your guitar (I replaced mine with stainless FR S screws) and I did not drill the holes larger for the Gotoh studs but instead used steel OFR studs (the steel Gotoh knife edges will eat through the brass alloy used on the stock FR S studs).

Holy Crap.
I've never felt so satisfied with a purchase before, it took the whole day to setup, but it was worth it. This thing stays in tune so well, dive bombing to depths of the world and back up, and still in perfect tuning.

Better Than Floyd Rose, Gotoh 1996T
Disclaimer : YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR OWN GUITAR.To properly install this tremolo, you will need to remove your old Floyd posts, or the like. If you are not experienced in luthier type of work, but just want to swap your trem, LEAVE YOUR POSTS IN!!! You will need to drill into your guitar body, so again if you are unsure of this, have a luthier install this.Tools you will need should you attempt this, 11 mm drill bit, drill or drill press (recommended) general hand toolsWith this all said, I do my own guitar upgrades, I have experience with building guitars, modding them, etc.I installed this in my ESP LTD Black metal guitar. The original tremolo was a Floyd Rose 1000 series. The reason I upgraded to this Gotoh was because of the tuning stability. The reason you install the new posts with this tremolo, (drill the post holes deeper and slightly bigger) is because these new posts have a small set screw in the middle of the post screw, which seats against the bottom of the post barrel, which increases resonance and sustain, better than a Floyd.I attest to this. I saw much better sustain and tuning stability with this guitar.Floyd was Ok, but I did have issues with tuning stability when used. I can dive bomb, wank the shaft, still in tune now.Now some draw backs. Not a big deal for me, I can fix these minor details, however, others may sway away? Up to you? Those are the following:The brass block on this is 40mm. This is an issue because I cannot reinstall the back plate due to the bottom of the block is flush with the body of the guitar. Some people may not see this as an issue, some keep the plate off anyway. If this is an issue for you, find one with the 36mm or 37mm brass block. This is what I will be doing. The other issue is, the saddle set screw on the low E string ( the allan screw the fine tuner screw pushes down or up on to fine tune the string) hits the body where the cavity routing is on the front of the guitar body. Again not a big issue for me as I will correct this when I change the brass block. So even with these two issues, I still would recommend this for anyone who has a tremolo, and wants to upgrade due to tuning issues or just tremolo frustration . I will be installing another one of these Gotoh 1996T tremolo's on my Schecter Diamond series She Devil C1 guitar. Has the same Floyd 1000 series trem on it, not to mention the right post is wonky.Hope this helps you, if it does, GREAT. Keep Shredding.

Gotoh Upgrade: Transforming My Guitar's Sound and Stability
After loads of research and countless videos, I went with the Gotoh. Wow, what an upgrade from my previous setup. Installing it required some woodwork, but it was totally worth it. The guitar sounds amazing now that everything is set up properly. This was my first time uninstalling/installing and setting up a Floyd Rose-style tremolo. Just be patient and take your time during installation. There are plenty of online guides for setting intonation, string height, and more. I was pleasantly surprised to find it came with a brass block, which wasn’t shown in the photos—a nice bonus. Now the guitar stays in tune much better and sustains beautifully.

Even if this bridge was as much as an original Floyd id buy. quality is superb. Every Floyd I've has had some play with each saddle. If it was designed like a kahler I'd get it haha, the ability to change string spacing would be cool, however that is not how Floyd saddles were designed. It's a small descrepency, but I'm pretty nit picky. This bridge does not have nearly as much play between saddles. Fine tuners are much smoother than other bridges I have and I'm thinking they have thicker threads because the fine tuning is much more responsive. The materials used from my understanding are exclusively hardened steel, compared to some bridges at a similar price point (namely Floyd special), consisting of some zinc alloy. Even the frt1000/2000/0200 etc... are not made of properly hardened steel. After a month of using a Floyd 1000, the knife edges showed wear beyond the coating flaking. Another cool thing is the saddle shape and coating/ material maybe? the shape is rounder than Floyd/ Schaller and hence much more comfortable. the coating or saddle material is also slightly porous or possibly just rougher, allowing much smoother hand shift across bridge. Locking studs are amazing, however I've usually just used these with Floyd studs as I doubt feel like drilling bigger holes. working just fine. the responsiveness of actually moving the trem itself while playing is more so to me than even an edge/ lol pro bridge. not to mention the arm attachment. set it and forget it man, absolutely perfect. I'm dragging on. Bridge is fantastic, for this price it's a steal. please do not buy a Floyd special. please do not buy some off brand trem. this thing will play better, sound better, last longer, is sometimes cheaper, and is more comfortable. ♥️
