What fun!!!
We eat a lot of fruit and so are plagued with fruit flies all summer. We have always relied on the old yoghurt pot with white wine vinegar and dish soap til now...and it does work-ish. But my sister recommended this bug zapper and things have just not been the same since. I come down in the morning hoping the pesky little *#!!^@s are back so I can unleash the zapper. It needs a long charge initially and you have to waft rather than swipe but the CRACK each time you dispatch on is.... disgracefully satisfying.

Very effective- sometimes a little too effective.
It's honestly great- I've not had an issue with the battery, and I've as of yet got to run out of charge with the thing as I turn it off completely between uses. the grip is an easy size and length to get a good swing with, and the button and switch are in a place that with good seating, you can manage a good grip and get an effective control of the button for swings. There are 3 layers of metal to zap with, so if they dodge the first set, there are two more to follow up. sometimes the bat feels a little short and the distance between the plastic frame and the metal sheets sometimes makes it hard to zap a fly you've trapped on a wall, unless you scare them into taking flight and risk them getting through. The zaps are rather loud, indicating it might be a little overkill, and scaring pets. Furthermore, It's not unusual for larger insects to get caught between the layers and start a small fire, which leaves a horrid smell. The light is functional, but comes out of the handle, leading me to question what use does it actually serve?? It's not lighting up what you swing at in the dark. my only remaining qualm is that there is no apparent "stays active until turned off" feature, so you will end up holding the button down for long periods of time if you have a lot of insects to swat, or poor aim that would make it take a while to get rid of them, which could end up causing a cramp.

Should Come With a Fun Health Warning
Living out in the countryside I get plagued with flies, particularly at this time of year. In the past I have gone for the usual forms of fly control, sticky paper (looks awful) watery one way trap (stinks after a couple of days.) So after much deliberation I plumped for the bug zapper. So to begin, one slight criticism. It does not exterminate a large blue bottle with one blow, it stuns it really, but it is then easily caught and fried. If you get your eye in and manage to swat and zap at the same time, then the fly is toast, literally. I have been prowling around my house, wand of death in hand, searching for flies to zap. However, a word of caution, during the hunt it is very easy to get carried away with yourself in pursuit of your winged quarry. Only this morning I came within inches of removing a set of pictures off the wall in one sweep, such is the all encompassing blood lust the electric tennis racket can induce. I now travel everywhere with my trusty zapper. Get one, they are the most addictive form of pest control known to man.

really scared me at first
oh my goodness did this scare me at first LOL? I was inundated with black house flies and little fruit flies. Don’t know where they were coming from and little devil to catch but this arrived plugged it in charged it and went on a mission. Oh my goodness, when it caught the first fly, I didn’t know what to do. zzzzz It’s a real piece of ammunition

Works. Sometimes
Kills small flies. Okay quality. A little bit flimsy. Smell of burning when you do kill a fly. Not very noisy.

WORK, IT DOES NOT
Well not unless you wack the fly with the solid handle at any rate and squash it.It's pretty well made and easy to charge. In use however, it's not so easy. Firstly, you need to be pretty athletic to actually connect with a moving fly. A lot of swipes can, and are, used up to no purpose beyond strengthening ones arm. Secondly, the best approach seems to be that of creeping up on a fly that has landed and then using the zapper on him. Trouble is that while the zapper gives off a loud crack and a blue flash the result is less than impressive in that the fly falls down but, in less than a second he is up and off again at the same or better speed than before, cue number 1 again!!!!!I know lots of folk here have said this works a treat, that's why I got it, I can only assume they were supplied with a different model to me or some of them speak with forked tongue.

Kills flies dead
You know that bit in Lord of the Rings where Gandalf comber back dressed all in white with a new super-powered staff? That's pretty much how you'll feel when upgrading to this.My old electric fly swatter, despite new batteries, was failing to have much of an impact on bigger flies - I had several occasions where they played dead on the swatter until I took them outdoors, and then instantly revived and flew away. Once it eventually broke from over-enthusiastic swinging I decided to try this as I liked the idea of being able to recharge it (although after several week's use I haven't needed to yet).Anyway back to the Gandalf feeling - the first time this connected with a fly there was a flash of light, a fairly loud bang and one very dead fly on the floor. This thing is pretty damn powerful (although be warned if you have small pets/children they might not be fans of the noise). So far unlike the old one, no flys have been stuck in it after being swatted, and the handle is fairly chunky so I'm not worried about it breaking like the last one. I haven't used the light feature yet, but I'm guessing this might be more use in a country with more nocturnal pests like mosquitoes.
