... sturdy portable ...
* * *I purchased this product as a retirement gift for myself in late summer of 2015.I have carried it back and forth to sewing classes at a local community college where I have made great sewing friends who attend class with me under the most excellent instruction of a fabulous teacher with great sewing experience and the most exceptional ability to teach and guide others in all sewing endeavors and efforts.* * *It is a quilting and sewing machine for beginners, I would suspect...It is the first sewing machine I have owned. It fits my beginning efforts with simple straight-stitch quilting (to this point anyway)... and sewing projects. It comes with a free-motion quilting foot and has the ability to have the feed dogs lowered out of the way for just that purpose. The functions are easy to learn... Brother provides short, silent-film (grin), tutorial videos on their support site...(which are linked to YouTube, where all the video tutorials reside...) so, you could just as easily visit YouTube and search for them under your own Brother model number... (wink)* * *It is a sturdy machine in spite of its minimal carrying weight...One of the first projects in our sewing class was a cover for the machine itself... to protect it inside the rolling case.I have not had any problems with the setup during each move or any alignment or operational issues in spite of all the moving and setups I have completed with this machine. It works very well as a portable and mobile machine.* * *Top speed for the three speed settings it affords is 850 stitches per minute...... not top notch embroidery speed, to be sure... but faster than I'm willing use as my normal speed for sewing just yet... (grin)I have progressed past the slowest speed it provides and over to the foot pedal as well... but "full-speed stitching" is still full pressure in "second gear" at this point in time... (wink)* * *Bobbin winding is an easy task... threading is simple enough with the threading assist tool built in... maintenance tasks are simplified with many of the places where dust and lint may accumulate having easy access. I expect that this machine will last a good long time. The build quality is superior... everything fits, doesn't rattle, or fall off during operation - that's always a good thing.* * *I believe at this price level, anyone just undertaking a sewing hobby would be hard-pressed to find a similar machine with the capabilities of this machine anywhere near this price point.* * *It is NOT advertised as an embroidery machine. Do NOT interpret the lettering and font comments or functions as anything other than an introduction to embroidery... It does NOT scale any fonts or letters... it does NOT embroider designs or frames... it might, but not as one would expect. Do NOT purchase this sewing machine for embroidery... look for an embroidery machine that also sews...It also brings to mind that you may free motion quilt with this machine, but it will not computer quilt any designs - there isn't any quilting mechanism on this machine. You may straight-stitch quilt using the feed dogs... or disengage the feed dogs and free-motion quilt under the control of your own hands... but it will not function as a computer-controlled quilting machine.* * *I am satisfied with this purchase... satisfied with the product for the price... and satisfied with the quality and sound operation of this machine.I would encourage anyone to get one for him/herself as his/her introduction to sewing... and quilting...* * *{ image description: sewing machine cover (zebra pattern) flanked on both sides by a couple of aprons and fronted by a manual/document carrying cover... all of which were produced during that first 8-week course. }Until that time... Hard to be fair
I purchased this machine as a returned item from an seller on Amazon. It arrived and though it was apparent that it had been opened before, the box was intact and the machine was packed in the original packing materials. However, once I began to set it up, I started finding missing items; no spool cap ( kind of essential since for some reason Brother has decided it's better to have a spool of thread sitting sideways rather than upright), the manual was not in English. No I didn't miss the English section; it was simply not there, just 4 other languages. There were no accessories, no bobbins, extra needles, screw driver, nothing. But I made adjustments and began to sew a simple cotton blouse. The DVD instructions were clear on threading the machine & filling the bobbin. And the first day of sewing was fantastic. The machine was simple to use and sewed beautifully. Then day two. Still sewing well, when suddenly after switching to another stitch, the upper thread locked up. I mean locked up, couldn't even get it out of the machine. I cut it from the spool side and gently pulled it out from the back. It took several tries and I'm not even sure it all came out. But then I pushed the button to put the needle in the down position and heard an awful grinding sound. I could see no way to open the case to check for entangled thread. And the machine was locked up. Would not sew at all. So, one quick email to the seller & the offered to replace it. Needless to say, I declined & opted to send it back for a refund. Amazon was quick to acknowledge the return request and has promised my refund within the next few days. Hubby was nit happy about the return shipping costs and gently chided me about buying previously returned merchandise to save a buck. Gotta admit, he is right. Looking forward to receiving my return and getting a brand new Brother. In fact, I plan to upgrade to a model with more features.

feature rich, easy to use, FONT,speed control W/O foot
This machine is for anyone who wants to sew without hassle.all of the stitches including the font/ numbers are located on the face of the machine. width, lengh, stitch number and what foot to use is displayed on the screen when the stitch number is put in by pressing up/down buttons.I checked the manual for the new easy bobbin filling. Speed control without the foot peddle is easy on my back andarms. this machine and the Singer 7258 are good for handicapped for this reason. I actually sing when I use these two machines. The crosstitches and many embroidery type stitches are a joy and help tweek my creativity.happy sewing, Warmest Wishes, Toni

where the needle threader is placed too tight
I did not like the needle threader . My husband could not even thread the needle because it was too tight. threader unit is too big unless you have tiny little hands. :I read and followed all the bobbin winder and threading for needle but could not get a nice even stitch. I spent several days and could not get good tension

Quilers Dream
Purchased for my wife who is a "Quilter". She loves the "quiet precision" this machine offers. Curious, in that we thought we had lost the power cord during a household move, and the Brother website seems to have forgotten this model no. We found the power cord.

New Brother SC9500 Computerized Sewing and Quilting machine
LOVE THIS MACHINE! This machine replaces my 35+ year old Kenmore sewing machine, that has served me well. I love the built in range of stitches (no extra box of individual disks required). I love the STOP/START buttons and the automatic threader a great feature for those of us who need help with that. A very nice machine overall!

Works for me
I bought it to hem some pants, my wife doesn't sew, tired of paying somebody half cost of pants to do this. Caught a sale so payed for itself fairly quick. Seemed well reviewed so took a plunge.Never sewn with machine before but I found this pretty simple to use following included materials.Really only used basic features to date, comes with many features I don't ever envisage using. Like the different stitches available.Just wish it came with a case.

My wife is happy with this purchase
The product was delivered promptly. My wife was already a brother sewing machine and surger owner, however, she is thrilled with this new model. And the price was very competitive. Allowed my wife to bring the older brother to our vacation home. Great value, very easy to use sewing machine.

Very disappointing product
So sorry the 30-day-period has expired and I can't return this machine. I do not like it at all and I've been sewing for 50 years. Threading, both bobbin and top thread, is cumbersome, thread keeps looping sporadically on bottom even after repeating threading process several times as per instruction in the manual, thought the automatic needle threader would be convenient but it's easier to thread it manually, and on and on... I do not recommend this machine.
