Adventures in The East Mark Board Game

Simply put, this is an awesome simulacrum, the best I've seen. It fully captures the fun and spirit of the early Red Box role-playing game. Wait there is more. The original artwork is fantastic, fresh and sets the tone for this unique take on the classic rules. I've saved the best for last...The East Mark is one of the best fantasy settings I have read in over 30 years of gaming. Adventures in the East Mark hits the sweet spot providing just enough detail to spur the imagination without requiring too much study. The maps, like the illustrations, are beautiful and evocative of a foreign and fantastic world to be discovered and adventured in and does so with an old-world European flavor. I really enjoy the old school role-playing games and Adventures in the East Mark is my favorite among them. Translated from the Spanish into English, Adventures in the East Mark retains the artwork of the original edition and comes in a nice sturdy box along with dice and a GM screen. Don't let the price discourage you, you get a lot of value for your money.

Best Mentzer retroclone money can buy. It's D&D the way I played as a kid. We pretty much used the rules from Mentzer basic combined with some expanded classes from AD&D 1E and that's just what this is. It's lavishly illustrated and well bound and formatted. Lovely to handle and read. The set comes with the book, a 3 panel (landscape) DM screen, a pencil and dice. The box is nice and stout for holding extra papers or notes. The book contains the main game rules, some info for DMs, a basic list of monsters with stats and setting info for The East Mark. You truly do not need anything else to play the best game of D&D ever written.

I like that this OSR game features descending armor class. Now *that* is keeping it old school. Well done.
