An Awesome Beauty....
The Mitchell MX400 is one of the prettiest guitars I have seen. Mine played nicely right out of the box. With no setup required, (straight neck, nice action, no fret buzz) though I have changed the strings to a nicer quality set. The build and finish quality is astounding for the price, it is also a little darker than the ad photos posted but in a good way. (I have included some pics that clearly shows the darker appearance.) I have played instruments 2 and 3 X the cost that weren’t as nice as this guitar. The sound of the guitar is a little on the bright side and a little soft on the low end which is understandable because of the thinner body style but still a great sounding guitar. Plug this guitar into your amp and you have complete control over its tonal quality with the onboard electronics. The built in tuner is also a nice little surprise (you don’t need to have the guitar plugged in to access the tuner) This guitar is an excellent choice for a beginner because of its playability as well as to the experienced guy or gal that wants to add a beautiful piece to their collection.

Great guitar
I picked up a Mitchell MX400 back in August '16 when a Guitar Center opened near my place. I had intended to pick up a Yamaha FX but was drawn to the quilted burl ash of the Mitchell. I was looking for a slim bodied guitar due to some shoulder problems I've been having. Now, in full disclosure, I am not a skilled musician. I have made a few attempts over the years to teach myself how to play guitar with very limited success. When I picked up the Mitchell it felt very comfortable, didn’t seem to bother my shoulder at all. I sat and toyed around with it for about 15 minutes. After changing my mind a few dozen times I finally decided to buy it and paid right around 300 bucks out the door. Now here is where things get a little interesting. I felt that the action was a little high and I asked the salesman about having it adjusted. He said they certainly could do that however, Mitchell sets these things up at the factory and the way it it set up now is Mitchell's recommendation and should be kept as such. Being a novice I figured I can take it home and play it a little bit and if I don’t like it I can always bring it in later for an adjustment.Over all the sound wasn’t bad. I was more impressed with the looks and the feel of the guitar and not with how well it played or how it sounded. After a few weeks I swapped out the strings with some Martin XP Custom Lights and it made a pretty significant difference. Now, after playing it a bit I thought it sounded pretty good. However, it did seem a little difficult to play. I chalked this up to me being inexperienced and carried on.Fast forward to today. Ive been talking lessons for about 6 weeks. Had a few friends and my instructor check out my guitar. Armed with multiple opinions I took it to a locally recommended Luther. Now I had read a number of reviews where people compared this Mitchell to Taylors, and Martins. I thought to myself...nah. Don’t get me wrong its a nice guitar but to compare it to one of the above mentioned was a stretch...or so I thought.I brought the Mitchell home from the Luther made some serious adjustment and slapped on a fresh set of stings my favorite strings. I was blown away! I could not believe the sound coming out of my previously average guitar. I was truly shocked at what I heard. Then I focused a bit on my chords and fret hand fingering and again was just floored at how easy this thing now played. I put the guitar away for the night and pondered writing this post. I held off until I ran a second practice session a day later.I liked and enjoyed this guitar before, now I absolutely love it. Such warm, rich, clear, projecting sound, bright but not too much, and oh sooooo much easier to play. For a 300 dollar guitar, a 5 dollar set of stings and 35 dollar tune up I have to say this is a steal of a deal, I don’t think many other guitars out there could come close. And in my opinion this thing looks better than anything else I’ve seen on the walls of the local stores. I am not skilled enough to say whether this thing could hang with a high dollar guitar but I will say that for about 300 bucks you wont be sorry with the purchase and you will be hard pressed to find something that sounds as nice and looks as beautiful as the Mitchell.

Love this guitar!
Amazing sound, I have gotten lots of compliments! Looks beutiful! Its sturdy well made and great quality. Love the built in tuner, love the shape, smaller and easy to handle, but does not compromise on the sound or craftsmanship.
