Still cooking tasty eggs after (almost) 12 years
I've had mine for almost twelve years and it's still going strong. I misplaced one of the cups a while back, but who's ever really needed to poach five eggs at once?Tips:* Use spray oil in the cups to prevent eggs from sticking. It's much easier than swirling butter or oil.* Run a spoon around the edge of the egg (no need to go that deep) when they're done to help it slide out more easily.* Leave your eggs out overnight so they're room temperature when you cook them (they'll cook faster and more evenly).* Crank up the heat to get more steam in there and more even cooking.* Try to pick eggs that are about the same size so they're done at the same time.* Get used to touching warm things with your fingers. The plastic handles get hot (is that really surprising?) but I've never burned myself on them.Pros:* Stainless steel cups are more durable than non-stick ones.* Big base means you can easily turn up the heat.* Despite other reviewers' troubles with the lid, I've found it to be durable. (It's my go-to lid for other pans.)Cons:* Easy to get a runny white every once in a while. Room temperature eggs help a lot with that.* Cleaning every nook and cranny in the pan can be tiring. (At least the cups clean easily.)* If you forget to put oil in, cleaning the cups is not easy.* Black knobs conduct a little too much heat, but it's manageable.

Perfect alternative to "real" poaching!
Like many other reviewers, I'm not too crazy about cooking with the non-stick Teflon silicone whatever engineered cooking materials. I prefer wood, glass, steel, stone & cast iron when able. This egg poacher did not disappoint. I tried it out for the first time this morning and despite slightly overcooking the eggs, it worked great and just needs some heating adjustments on my part. I can't stress enough that the poaching cups need some form of greasing; otherwise, you will have a cleaning nightmare on your hands! I used a tiny (very tiny, actually) dab of crisco to grease all 5 cups. I then put small scoops of butter in the cups before the eggs. Guess what...upon removal, the eggs slid right out of their cups with no sticking whatsoever. No staining or residue was left on the cups, either, after cleaning.Based on other reviews, I also did not want to chance having a glass lid explode all over our eggs, so I used a 10" steel lid that fit perfectly over the pan (the glass lid that came with the pan went promptly into the recycle bin. Check out the Nordic Ware 10" steel lid).More times than not, I don't feel like going through the process of traditional poaching (water vortexes, straining the thin, wispy whites from the eggs, cooking 2 eggs at a time, etc). This pan is a fantastic substitute. Get one!

Love the stainless steel and tempered glass lid, but...
I have been looking for a long time (a few years) for a stainless steel egg poacher without the "non-stick" coating. Not finding one, I learned how to poach using water and vinegar in a saucepan. Then recently I saw this Norpro Stainless Steel Egg Poacher in Amazon and was thrilled. However, I really needed one that would work on an induction burner. The question and answers on this were conflicting, so I decided to go ahead and get it. I use a wood stove during the winter, so I knew that no matter what it would work fine then. It is really sturdy. However Spring is here (even with the mix of Sun and Snow yesterday) and I really need it to work on my induction burner that I use outside on my porch when it is too warm to cook inside. I live totally off-grid, so use induction burner and slow cooker during the hot and sunny weather. So as soon as I received the package, I unpacked it and added water and put it on the induction burner. As soon as I turned the burner on, I got the error code. Sigh... I really like it. But I will only be able to use it during the winter. Hopefully some company will eventually make one like this that will work on an induction burner. I would rate that one 5 stars.Updated 3/10/15: I meant to update this review prior to this. I bought the Max Burton induction burner interface disk so that I could use the Norpro stainless steel 10 inch egg poacher skillet set that I bought. I put it on my Max Burton induction burner and then set the egg poacher skillet on the interface disk. It works! It does generate more heat, the whole induction burner has to get hot to heat the skillet, after all. But for poached eggs, it isn't like a long time of cooking. And without the induction interface disk, I would not be able to cook poached eggs with my skillet in the summer time.

Best pan poacher I've seen!!!
Great 5 egg pan poacher. This is just the right size to handle jumbe egg as the 6 egg units I've seen have cups that are too small. The construction is excellent; highly polished SS, very sturdy for use as 10" frying pan as well as pan poacher. Tubular handle is the right size for firm grip. Others have mentioned that the knobs for lifting the cups get too hot, and you may find this a difficulty, however with the use tongs as has been suggested this is not a problem, and with the use of light kitchen gloves it is really easy to remove the entire tray, or individual cups. A nice feature is the flat bottom cup shape as it allows removing cups, or entire tray and resting them on counter tops without the cups tipping over The highly polished cups release the eggs easily with just a light spray of cooking oil, and sometimes a slight nudge around the edge where the white rests. The glass top vents vapor so it remains mostly clear while cooking. Pay attention to how much water you use, and don't allow the pans to float. This is a well constructed, sturdy kitchen tool that should give years of service, it is the best 5 egg pan poacher I've seen. A comment on cooking; I live at almost sea level (500 ft.), and with 5 jumbo eggs 3 1/2 minutes gives a firmly set white, and nice fluid yoke. Poached eggs are great way to start any day!!!
