Fantastic Little Camera
I have been lugging around my big camera on vacations, and never brought it out otherwise as it was a pain to carry around. All my friends have compact digitals now and the picture quality has improved so vastly, that I finally bit the bullet and purchased this Nikon. Simple to use, great quality of photos and so wonderful to stick in my purse or pocket. We just returned from a vacation to Europe, and it was a dream to have a camera so small and lightweight. My photos were as good as a DSL camera my friend brought with. I am amazed and may never go back to using my bigger camera (except to a trip to see the polar bears this fall as I will definitely need the best zoom lens). I used to take so much time lining up the shoot, and here it was just point and click with awesome results. I highly recommend this camera to any novice or professional that needs a quick, small camera.

Nice Camera, just too small for me.
Growing up with Film cameras then moving to my Kodak Easyshare CX-7530 im used to a camera you can hold onto and have it have some weight to it. I know some others like the ones you can stick in your back pocket and just quickly grab it and shoot. (i'm getting there) So out of the box the Nikon S6000 was packed nicely, but the camera even tho I knew the dimensions, looked just too small for what I felt I wanted. I did snap a couple of pictures and the picture color and quality compared to what I had been taking with my 5MP camera was immediately noticed. This cameara did take some nice colorful shots. The little accessory cover on the side which covers the USB / and A/V out seemed to be flimsy and like it could easily break off, it was only held on by one small rubber piece and it sort of swung down to open. The battery cover worked but seemed really lightweight, the whole camera is not heavy at all.The screen was nice and colorful, I didn't play with it a lot b/c I knew i wanted to return it once I saw the size and felt the weight, but it was clear and bright.I think for someone who wants a small lightweight camera this will definitely work for you, for those who want a camera with a bit more heft, then look at some other models.Good Buy if a small point and shoot is what you are looking for !

Great pictures until it shuts off a minute into using it, but its small & convenient i guess..... Only one major problem.
I'd like to use it, the only problem.... It constantly shuts off in the middle of viewing pictures taking pictures, anything you do it shuts off. I bought it new... Its not that I didn't charge it either. It was fully charged and still shutting itself off constantly.3 months into having it, I can no longer use it because I turn the power on and it shuts down immediately after turning on. Not satisfied at all. I paid way too much to only have a camera for 2 1/2 months.

Best of the Point and Shoots
For the short period I have owned this camera I find it to excel my expectations. It has produced art quality panoramas unlike anything I was able to create with my 35mm equipment. This is far more than a "point-and-shoot" camera, its manual functions make picture taking fun again. Tha ability to take black and white photos again is a real kick. Buy this or plan on the next step, which will cost at least $500 more.Update now that I have used this camera for months. A major draw-back is no view finder. I was hoping the screen would be bright enough for daytime pictures, but it is not. It is not "point-and-shoot", but point-shoot-and-hope you get the picture you want. In direct sunlight, you can't see anything on the view screen.

Great Camera!
After reading some of the reviews on this camera, I resisted the temptation to get the newer touch-screen version of this camera. And despite the $20 cheaper price on the newer version, I think I did the right thing. This is a very small camera and you really can't help putting your fingers on the screen while using it. So I really think the mechanical controled S6000 version is definitely the way to go.Beyond that I was VERY impressed with this camera. The pictures are VERY clear and the features totally blow me away. I've had hundreds of cameras in my lifetime. Many of them very high-end and some cheaper ones. But this one is my favorite. Its almost like Nikon took all my favorite features of my previously owned cameras and crammed all their best features into the S6000. If you are a point-and-shoot photographer, this camera is fantastic, but if you like to push the enevelope with a camera (like I do), this camera will go right along with the program. The camera is nice and small and can be slipped into your shirt pocket very easily so I always have it with me. Battery life seems to be fantastic too. I purchased my first Nikon in Hong-Kong back in 1968. This is only my second Nikon and I'm wondering why I ever used anything else!
