Exactly as advertised
For some reason the power supply to my hot water circulation pump was dead. It was originally hardwired to the wall and there was no power and no aquastat or timer??? So, I decided to try the aquastat alone first and would add the timer unit if necessary. I got some 14ga three wire cord from the hardware store, added a three-prong plug to one end and wired the aquastat into the line and the pump motor following the wiring diagram included with the aquastat. I just plugged it into the wall outlet. It works fine.If you order the aquastat note that the sensor clamp on it is for 3/4" pipe. Mine was 1/2" so I clipped it to the return side of the fitting right at the pump inlet. The temp. setting says on at 95 off at 115 degrees. I found it to run rather infrequently but I get hot water in the farthest bathroom within 10-15 seconds. Compared to 1 1/2-2 minutes before installation.Overall the unit works as described and was not complicated to install if you are familiar with wire stripping, wire nuts, know the black wire from the white and ground. But if this kind of thing is foreign to you, call an electrician. I have not found the timer necessary.UPDATE: In an effort to economize and save on propane, I turned the water heater down to approx 110, and noticed that the hot water circulating pump was running continously, becaue it's set to run until 115 is detected on the return line. Turned the hot water back up just a bit, and the pump now shuts off. Just a note, your hot water must be set at 115 or higher, 120 is usually recommended, or the circulating pump never shuts off.

Save your money
Installed per instructions in series with the yellow wire inside the Taco Pump with clock timer. The thermostat is not sensitive enough; IT NEVER SHUTS OFF the circulation pump. The water temperature in the copper pipe return loop gets to the point it will burn your hand, but the pump keeps running, running, running...I even wrapped the sensor and copper pipe it is attached to in foam pipe insulation, trying to trap some of the heat near the body of the sensor. It still doesn't reach the temperature which will shut it off. I let the pump run for over a half hour.Poor design. It needs to open the circuit at a lower temperature. Adjustable would be even better...Mike, PhD E.E.

Worked great for controlling a domestic hot water circulator
Worked great for controlling a domestic hot water circulator. Simple and effective. I would prefer that it had a faster response time, but for a simple device like this, I'm happy.

It hardly worked from the beginning
I mounted it on a copper pipe and secured it tightly. It worked for a few days then it never shut the pump off after that. I bought a different brand and it has worked fine ever since.
