Works great
I ordered this because it matched my new Honeywell thermostat. As a DIY'er, I was more confident things would work well with this sensor. The mounting clip was an improvement over the old sensor.BTW- don't mount it where the sun hits it part of or all day. Sun exposure would give skewed results.

Nice Feature
This is a nice upgrade to my TH8320 thermostat. A quick glace at the stat while walking through the house lets me see what temperature it is outside not to mention the benefits during adaptive intelligent recovery. Install was a breeze for my dad who's worked in HVAC for 30+ years. Only downside is the back of the house faces east which is where the condenser is as well as this sensor. In the mornings, even though it's not in direct sunlight, it reads the outdoor temperature between 8 and 10 degrees higher than it really is on a sunny day even in the winter. I think the sun is warming up the siding of the house and reflecting some of the heat causing the discrepancy. I just adjust the temperature in my head and am satisfied with that. By the afternoon when the back of the house is shaded, the temperature is consistent with my outdoor thermometer. I could probably use a better placement but I'm not overly concerned about it since the thermostat doesn't go into recovery until the evening so it isn't throwing off the recovery calculations. It's been installed for four years and worked without a hitch.

Thermister provides approximate temperature.
A thermister. It works okay for the purpose I guess. I wired it to my T-stat for an outdoor temp. This allows the T-stat to automatically switch to the aux. heat and lockout the compressor when it gets down to a temp. set point. I've seen it vary 3 degrees F when compared to my other outdoor thermometer, so it's not real accurate compared to a regular thermometer. I wonder what it would do if one tried using it as the remote indoor sensor, the room would vary in temp a bit. Fortunately it is not very expensive, considering it's a Honeywell device.

Honeywell C7089U1006 Outdoor Temp Sensor
Added this Honeywell temp sensor to my Honeywell T10 thermostat to give much more accuracy than online Accuweather temperature accessed by the T10 thermostat. Provides accurate outdoor temperature to control Aux lockout and Compressor lockout on my heat pump system. Pros: Accurate and works with the Honeywell T10. Also the price and delivery with 50 ft of thermostat cable was good. Cons: No fun fishing this from outside to the thermostat on the interior wall. Also Honeywell does not list the T10 thermometer on the list of compatible thermostats for this C7089U1006 sensor. They need to fix their documentation.

Quality product
Item is genuine Honeywell part and compatible with my Honeywell thermostat. Replaces one installed recently by local technician that had a different resistance profile so temps were unreliable. This outdoor sensor is much more robust - wires are thicker and the sensor is larger. Easy to install and did it myself. First one cost $315 including parts and labor. This one cost $40. Moral of the story is to be sure that the sensor is the proper one for your thermostat.

Web page Technical error
Be careful when ordering this Item. I was shopping for a programmable thermostat when I ran across this item. I thought it would be great to see the outside temperature displayed when checking my thermostat. I purchased a Honeywell RTH8500D thermostat to use with this sensor. The thermostat was on sale and the Amazon web page for the sensor indicated it would work with the thermostat. I copied and pasted part of the technical details from the web page for the sensor below:"Technical Details: Outdoor temperature for display on the T8600 or T8500 family thermostats."Or link to the page: Honeywell C7089U1006 Outdoor Temperature Sensor [Misc.]After receiving, programming and starting the installation process, I discovered the sensor would not work with the thermostat. The thermostat sub-base lacks the terminals required to connect the sensor wires. I downloaded additional installation instructions and discovered a TH8320U1008 VISION PRO 8000 thermostat is required for the sensor feature. I returned to the sensor web page and noticed the reference to the VISION PRO thermostat was listed. Trouble is it also advises it works with the T8500 family thermostats. It does not. I returned the thermostat to Amazon and ordered the correct unit. However it costs more and Honeywell won't warranty it unless it's installed by a PRO. They don't define what a PRO is. Anyway it's very easy to configure, install and program. The creature's been operational for several weeks now and I'm pleased with It's performance. Amazon treated me very fairly with this issue, but the error is still on the Amazon web page for the sensor.

works well
The Honeywell C7089U1006 Outdoor Temperature Sensor was easy to hook up and install, but a little more $$ than I really should have paid, I put this in when I installed the new programmable thermostat. Now I have a reference to the outside temp at the thermostat. I don't know if they make a compatible cordless remote, which would be easier, but this one, so far seems accurate and operable. Plan on splicing the contact lines, however, as the leads are only 6 feet long

Analyzing the honeywell outside temperature sensor
This is a great product;I installed it myself and it recordsthe outside temperature on my Honeywell thermostat. I am very pleased with it. It is accurate as I have read the resistance from the chart and it is right on. What I like so much is that I don't have to guess at what it is outside for shutting my Heat pump down for instance if the temperature is too cold for the heat pump to be effective. But best of all was the price I got it for. The contractor quoted me almost 4 times The price but with shipping it was still about 1/3rd of the price and I didn't have to leave my home and waste my precious time.Thank you Amazon for making this possible. I have waited for this day for many years. Thanks---Ted R in Idaho
