Genuine WhiBal G7 Certified Neutral White Balance Card - Keychain Card (1x2.2-Inch)

Digital cameras are marvelous devices in that the newer versions often have an automatic white balance feature built in. This is great, until you find that the fantastic photo that you took of someone comes out with a greenish skin cast or make their face look like they had a mild sunburn. Then you have to fiddle with your photo editing software to hopefully correct it, spending valuable time when you could have been doing better things.The WhiBal G7 Certified Neutral White Balance Card is the perfect field tool for this. It's a small keychain card, measuring 1" x 2.2", and is attached to a stainless steel Nite Ize S-Biner #1 that's about 1½ long. It came in a small zip-lock style bag with an explanation card, and listed the Michael Tapes Design site where support information can be found. Though they show it attached to a key ring, I chose to keep it in my camera bag so that I can clip it to a zipper pull when in the field.This simple little product gives the photographer an easy, fast and cost effective way to get accurate color results when shooting with digital cameras. Whether you shoot RAW or JPEG, the WhiBal card is an excellent tool for reproducing accurate color in any shooting situation. This G7 card is waterproof and won't absorb dirt. It can be rinsed off in the sink, and can be cleaned with a non-abrasive glass cleaner if it's gets scruffy in use.If this version is too small, there's also the larger WhiBal G7 Certified Neutral White Balance Card, a pocket card which measures 2.1" x 3.35" which is about the size of a credit card. It's a good asset to have with newer digital cameras, but it's excellent with older ones which may have white balance issues. Great little grey card that can be easily clipped to a jacket zipper, camera bag, etc... I don't know that it's a replacement for a full size color checker, but for a white balance in a pinch it works great.Card is nice sized and durable enough that you can hang it on your bag. I have this clipped to the lanyard on my light meter. Even though I don't use it as my primary card, it's a nice backup that you don't notice is there until you need it.

Hard to fill the frame in the same lighting conditions as the subject as it is quite small. The next larger size (about the same as a credit card) works fine and is kept in my wallet. The latter works quite well, and better than a white card or camera’s AWB.

I have had good results with the larger pocket version of the WhiBal card, but I find that I either misplace it or it's not immediately accessible. This solves that problem, since I have it clipped to my camera strap at all times (the clip is pretty nice by the way), and I simply unclip it and snap a shot with the card when needed. Highly recommended, and I'm buying another.

It made a subtle, but marked improvement to my color balance. The tweaking of the magenta/green tint is most important for me doing outdoor photography, then adjust temperature to taste.

Works well - just seems a bit pricey, although I do keep it on my key chain and have used it several times so that I don't have to guess about the color balance of the scene when I get to Photoshop.
