Q: Why are these so expensive?

Amazon is selling these candies at a HUGE price. They are cheaper elsewhere, if you can find them. Try a Kroger affiliated store such as Fred Meyer, if you have one close.

Q: Are these seriously $17 a bag? They're like $2.99 at the store.

They ran out at the grocery store last year and I purchased on here one 12 ounce bag for 10.95...wasn’t too fresh

Not sure which offering you are looking at. One Amazon offering is for 2, 12-ounce bags for $18.50. Tip - go to Fred Meyer (or perhaps Kroger store) if you have one near you. I bought several 12 oz. packages in January for approximately $2.50 each bag. They are only offered from sometime in January through Valentine's Day. These are my favorite candies. Good luck to you.
