Element Blew Up - Scarry
I have had to replace multiple elements on the EcoSmart 27. The replacement elements lasted between 3 to 6 months. It's usually the first element in the heat exchanger that goes out as it gets most of the work. This last replacemt element literally exploded on me. There was a funny burning smell in the room and as I was trying to discover where the smell came from there was an explosion inside the tankless hot water heater. I jumped, smoke came out. It was scarry.I've had to replace approximately 6 elements. I vinegar clean every 6 months and have a descaler filter on the feed side of the cold water line. I don't trust these replacement elements. I knew they were not OEM because the gaskets were not the same and where the element final resting place when fully screwed into the heat exchanger did not align properly with the OEM. I don't know why the replacements are not OEM but I'm done with EcoSmart. I Purchased a different manufacturer tankless and replaced the whole thing.

Needs different rubber washers
Bought these to have on hand for my Richmond Tankless water heater. They work as a replacement. But the washers are flat and too thick compared to the original. The washers do not fit into the supplied space when tightening the elements. Cutting into the flat washer making them unusable. You either have to purchase new rubber o-rings or reuse the old ones. I reused the old ones. Sealed without leaks.

Good fit and price
It fit perfectly. So far so good after about a month of use. Let's hope it lasts longer than the 1.5 years the original part did.

Don’t buy a tankless water heater. But if you do….
As a DIY’er or a professional would tell you, don’t install a tankless water heater without a serious filtration system. Otherwise, If you had the misfortune of installing a tankless water heater in your home (an area with water so hard it may as well be moist gravel) you’ll have to purchase these a few times a year. You cannot find these in home improvement stores around these parts. In fact, you can’t even find them in specialty plumbing stores unless they order them for you. In which case you’ll spend twice the price for basically the same heating element. These work. They fit. They are easy to install with the correct size element tool. They don’t leak if installed correctly (I’d recommend a little silicone lubricant). The relatively low cost outweighs the cost of an expensive filtration system, but I would strongly recommend a filtration system. With that, I would bet that the lifespan would be 3-4 years. That would be ideal.
