A great magnifier.
I can't recommend this magnifier light highly enough. The daylight ring light gives shadow free, colour balanced, even illumination. The 12 cm. lens gives an undistorted view of the workpiece from a distance that allows working with a standard size brush. The supporting spring arms are of true angle poise design (many are not) allowing the widest range of positioning for the light head, which remains balanced & parallel to the work surface. The clamp is heavy duty & metal (many are not) it remains firm & does not slip off (many do). This lamp is a true workhorse & well worth the extra bit of money.Don't make the mistake I did & go for the cheaper versions, this one is the best!

Excellent product
I thought long and hard about buying one of these lights. I do a lot of sewing, but as my eyes are failing I am finding it increasingly more difficult to unpick stitches from any sewing alterations I do. I researched a great deal of different makes, each having different reviews, some good, some not so good. What I did find confusing was the how I could relate as to the magnification x in relation to the diopter. This has a given diopter of 5 which is just perfect for me. I clicked on Maplins website and all was explained. This has a diopter of 5 which is just perfect for me. So I went ahead and bought one. It arrived a lot faster than the given expected date. It's a good solid light it has the exact right amount of magnification for my needs. It will also be very useful for anyone who does health and beauty, and also craft work.. So now I have all I need. I can throw away the magnifier I purchased that you hang around your neck, which for my needs was an absolute waste of money.

Good light and magnification once you tighten the screws up
The light from this lamp is excellent, a good bright white spread of light. The flap part was rubbish so I took it off (don't worry, the sun does not shine directly in where my lamp is located) as it didn't really sit down properly. I found like others that the lamp didn't hold itself in position properly so I tightened up all the screws/nuts holding it together - not the bigger hand/wing-nuts but the smaller silver ones - and this solved the issue. Time will tell if I need to do this periodically but it's been a few months now and I haven't had to do it again yet.I have no previous experience of using lamps like this so it took some getting used to the magnifying aspect of it, finding the best distance and position to get a clear image. Overall I am dropping a star off because the build quality isn't the best but otherwise it is worth it for me. Oh and it's not the prettiest, it reminds me of something from a hospital ward...

It's a Maplin
Back in my days when I did Warhammer painting or hobby work these was over £100. mark but time have change and now they have become cheaper but have not drop it in quality only price, this Maplin "Magnifying Lamp" is a nice one compare with others or cheaper versions, when doing any hobby DIY work this will be nice to add to your collection of tools also it would help you do the most smallest detail work with ease has it's lens is a 5x dioptre lens. And it lamp is nice and bright and shadow free to see your work I use mine allot with making things for my Lemax or doing Fimo, to remove and replace the lamp is easy and the price at just £6.99The top lens cover is its only small design fault just too thin and can break if you are heavy handed but you will see it on other brand names. I have taken mine off it was design to be used as a desk lamp and Magnifier. You can read about the dioptre lens and how it works but if it is not for you then just buy the hand Magnifier but you will not get the best result from a hand held one over a desktop one.

Good product let down by poor design issue
Very good and solid clamp, angle poise mechanism is fine, very easy to adjust. The light is bright and clear, can work well under it and the magnification is perfect for my needs. The bulb does radiate some heat which I was not expecting after using LED lamps and probably should have. The lens cover is very badly designed, the hinge is next to useless, it doesn't locate properly and it often just falls off... really spoils an otherwise good product. Have yet to research cost and avilability of a replacement bulb, that might make or break it for some.

If it stayed in position it would be very good. Avoid as its a waste of money if ...
The light won't stay at the desired height. It falls down under its own weight. The pivots in the adjusting arm simply are not stiff enough to keep the light where you want it. If it stayed in position it would be very good. Avoid as its a waste of money if you want more than two positions to keep it in

Lightcraft Flexible Magnifier Lamp
This magnifier lamp is excellent! It meets my expectations = does exactly what is is meant to. The lamp head holds in position and tilts whichever way you want it without problem. So far I've used the lamp for fine art airbrushing detail, visual education, threading needles, taking thorns out of fingers after gardening...It was also the best price I found in my extensive search for the 'right' product. Therefore, Lightcraft, 5 stars for great acquisition! And thank you, Amazon, for brilliant service on all accounts as ever!Merci beaucoup!

Great magnifier, hopeless mechanism
The magnifier is great and it looks very smart, but the mechanism is dreadful it won't hold it's position it seems that the lamp is too heavy for the hydraulics. Had I not rashly thrown out the packaging it would be going back. Instead I'll order another of the one I got last time. .https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HIB12L0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
