Linksys E2500 (N600) Advanced Simultaneous Dual-Band WiFi N Router, Renewed (E2500-RM2)

I replaced the awful router from my ISP with a couple of these bad boys, after flashing them with dd-wrt. This router can handle a fully featured build custom firmware. I haven't used the default firmware at all but I don't recommend using anything closed source.Overall this one rules tho. It supports free and open source firmware and it's affordable. Excellent choice for a home network.

I got these as secondary 5ghz routers for my house, and selected them primarily as they are known to run both dd-wrt and Advanced Tomato alternative firmware. Unfortunately, I did not realize that there are some significant caveats: apparently dd-wrt does not support the 5ghz wifi radio at all ( at least as of 1 month ago when I tried), and Tomato firmware seems to have severe performance issues, where it needs a reboot frequently when you use the 5ghz radio.I ended up just replacing the device with the weak wifi signal rather than mess with this these devices more, but I'd recommend against buying these if you're trying to save a few bucks, unless you don't care about using 5ghz bands at all. But if that's the case you could probably get a cheaper dd-wrt compatible router instead. Here's hoping the alt firmware support improves for this device.

It came with a 5V power supply, but the router requires 12V. Luckily I have a pile of old power supplies in my basement and I found one with the right specifications. Other than that, it seems to work fine. It came with outdated firmware, but that's kind of to be expected. I updated it to the latest firmware, and the update went without a problem.

Good. Came with a DVD to set things up. Finished the setup within 5-7 mins

Randomly stops working for short periods of time

The installation failed at end of auto-play. Turned out the AC adapter had failed. Luckily I had one lying around and was able to complete the installation. Router appears to be running fine. The guest signal is pretty handy to have if you get a lot of guests who want to log on with their devices.

It had a limited range. I wanted to put a password so it couldn’t be used by someone else and tech support couldn’t help me

Muy buen funcionamiento, lo usé para remplazar otro Linksys de modelo más antiguo. Se ha comportado muy estable con todos los dispositivos que tengo conectado por wireless, Chromecast, bocinas, apagadores, etc. Con el módem que entrega el proveedor tenía muchas fallas con el wireless y con éste ya llevo una semana y se ha compoetadouu bien. Adicionalmente cuenta con una función de invitado, la cuál peite el acceso a invitados que llegue a tu casa y solo les da acceso a tu internet sin entrar a tu LAN
