Excellent, zero adjustments needed for me…
Bought this as a “cool factor” lighter. I read many reviews of dozens of products. I took a flyer on this one and am glad I did. It’s made very well, heavy, yet slightly smaller than expected. Some have said they had had troubles with adjustments needed to get the match stick portion to work properly. Mine worked fine! The match stick lit after the 3 or 4th initial attempt. There is a thin coating that has to be worn of after tricking against it. Once off, not lights on the 1st strike!Overall a good deal and well made!

Stand up company.
(Last update)They kept their word and sent me a new replacement lighter. I asked it NOT be a match combo lighter. Zippos being ruffly 20 to 25 dollars. I expected the same quality. Minus the match part they are very well made. They hold fuel well with very little loss. Just don't over fill. I made that mistake once. Anyways great company great lighters. I highly recommend if your looking for something different from the norm. Would be five star had this issue never happened. As far as customer service 10/10.Update pending word kept by manufacturer. 5-19-25Original review 5-16-25Skip this product. "Ferro" rod not attached. What else can I say. Tomorrow is Father's Day. No time to return it. This makes me sick.

Great for collectors
I ordered this lighter specifically to put on display, not use. It's a beautiful lighter and looks vintage 1940s. I love the matchstick feature — it's just a cool addition. It looks great alongside my brass ship items. Just a nice addition to a collection.

Originally had a couple issues, but I was able to resolve them after a couple adjustments
Overall:This lighter is actually pretty cool. I had to update my review twice now because I was writing a pretty good review and then the regular thumb-activated part of the lighter completed stopped working, so I had ended up writing less-than-ideal review. However, after receiving some additional guidance from the company, I discovered some important facts, which I will share below. I like how this lighter makes it possible to refill over and over again using kerosene rather than having to buy new lighters all the time. I also like the fact that kerosene will last up to 5 years, so I don't have to constantly replace lighters all the time. It comes with a few extra items as well such as 4 rubber o rings, a replacement wick, 3 extra thumb-activated flint rods (one is stored in the oil filling cap) and a metal bar, for scraping off the initial coating that you use to strike the match. I love how you can replace parts or pull up the wick if it blackens with time. My first thumb-activated flint broke, was lost, or was used up after multiple uses on the first day I got it was the flint, however, I was striking over-and-over-and-over again to get it to light. There's a spring that pushes a metal cylinder against the flint rod, which pushes up against the rotating cylinder that turns when you light it. I had to replace the flint rod. I later also discovered I needed to make a critical wick adjustment, which resulted in it lighting on the first attempt rather than after 10-15 tries like originally. I will share that adjustment below.Filling:There are two screws on the bottom. Originally, I didn't know why there are two instead of one, but after watching the video, it became clear that the large screw is for filling, but screw also contains a spare flint. The small screw is for removing the bottom plate for wick replacement. The instructions don't say much about whether or not you can fill it where the match stick screws in, but this may be possible and seemed to work for me. It would definitely be nice to fill from the top. To fill it, I took a small bottle of kerosene and poured into a dropper bottle and then used the dropper to drip drops of kerosene in. There's not a ton of space to pour kerosene in unfortunately, but I made it work using a spare dropper bottle.Lighting:I was able to light both the lighter and the match initially, but it was definitely not super easy to do at first without learning a couple tricks and having a little practice. I discovered that the reason the thumb-activate lighter wasn't lighting very well in my case, was because my the wick needed to be pulled out slightly. I also was originally turning it with my finger rather than my thumb. This also made a difference on the ease of lighting it. Now, I get get to light on the first strike. The match is still a little challenging, even after the black coating is scraped off. I had to push pretty hard to scrape it and had to angle the lighter by about 45 degrees so that the sparks would fall in the direction of where the match was heading, but it's still doable with a little practice.Summary:I would definitely recommend watching the video as it helps a lot. This is definitely a cool device, but you need to make sure to educate yourself a bit and fine-tune it as needed.

Not the best quality
Cool marketing, but not the best quality. I like how it had the match/candle feature, while mine works good enough, it's a bit frail. Meh.

LOVE IT
I have always liked the look and functionality of the trench lighters and always wanted one. I jumped at the chance to get this and review it and I am glad I did! I LOVE the brass old timey look of it and have gotten several compliments and "where did you get that, I want one!" comments from co-workers.The match feature takes some getting used to as I have never had anything like this before. You have to strike it at just the right angle to get the spark to ignite the match end. I found pulling it upwards easier to get lit than downward.I also think that the fluid would tend to dry out faster with just a little flip down cap covering up the wick, but I tested this next to the zippo I have been using for a decade and the fluid lasted the same amount of time. It strikes easily and cleanly and lights on the first flick of the wheel every time. I have been using this for 2 months on a daily basis and I couldn't be happier.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Lots of extras, poor performance
I was so very excited about this lighter. With its different appearance and the option to use kerosene, it would be a nice change from the disposable options and my zippo. However, I was so disappointed when it arrived and the little booklet that came with it said butane. The book must be wrong. Because there is no way butane would work in this.I do not know if this lighter would work better for a man. It takes a good many strikes to get my lighter to flame. I am unable to get the match to light at all. I guess I am using the wrong angle. It is far more easy to continue using my zippo to light things, or the long wood matches. This will simply be a neat conversation piece. This does come with extra flints and wicks in case you figure out ways to get yours to work better than I did.The packaging would have made this fit for gifting if it had not been partially crushed upon arrival. This is a really neat idea, really great appearance, if only it worked better.
