It's an Alpha Industries Parka
It's not a Valley Apparel (whatever that is) parka. According to the label, it's made in China, not the USA. According to the label, it's an Alpha Industries Parka, but at least this one wasn't nearly as costly as the Alphas are normally selling for, so I'll keep it. This replaced a better, but worn-out, N-3B Parka (also made in China), that was over 20 years old, which, in turn, replaced an even better, genuine US Air Force N-3B parka that I had in the 70s and 80s. These "replica" N-3B parkas have become lower and lower quality garments with time, especially regarding their insulation value and the dwindling fullness of the fur around the hood. Thus, this parka requires even more layering (including the necessity, now, of wearing a knit hat under the hood) as compared to my past two parkas, as the temperatures and wind chill indices descend to the teens and below. So, if you're looking for a really, really good N-3B, this isn't it.

Great in Boston weather!
Got this for my husband- we live right outside of Boston, MA and it gets very cold and very windy. My husband is about 5' 6" and 135 lbs or so. I got him the medium to leave room for layers underneath- it's roomy but not overly so. He's happy with it! The fabric is a really nice heavy weight, the stitching is high quality, the hood is lined with fur and the fur on the edge of the hood is really nice too. Very happy to support American workers and also get a great quality product for a reasonable cost.

There's still some room to move but without feeling like it will let any of the cold in
I'm about 6' tall and around 205 pounds, and the large fits me very well. There's still some room to move but without feeling like it will let any of the cold in.The outer shell is highly resistant to wind, which is important when you're going through a North Dakota winter. It also resists water pretty well, though I can't say I've fully tested this, as the most it's dealt with is melting snow. The coat is well insulated, and has had no problem keeping me warm when the windchill dips down to -35 Fahrenheit. (t's yet to get colder than this where I live, though this morning it was -15 Fahrenheit ambient with that windchill, and the coat kept it out. I have plenty more time to test its resistance to winter.I haven't had a need to use the "snorkel" yet, though I have put the hood up just to see how well it would work. Even forgoing the snorkel, the hood is warm and keeps the wind out.The overall build quality is good. There a few errant threads here and there, but nothing where I can see the stitching is coming out of the coat. One of the buttons for securing the storm flap is a tad loose, but not to the point where it seems like it will fall off in the near future. So far I am really loving this coat, and feel it's been one of my better investments. I hope to have it for many winters to come.

Made like mine from the 1960s/70s, better quality, hood fur zips off
I was dubious when buying an "official" N-3B to replace one I've had since the 1970s (or late 60s). And from Amazon. That one braved frozen, windy flight lines, has protected me in high-wind, sub-zero life-threatening temps for years, and withstood abuse. It was made for (Air Force) serious cold weather.Fast forward to getting a new N-3B from a U.S. manufacturer... and I couldn't be happier. The material is better quality. The features and dimensions are the same (exactly! I compared pockets, sleeve & cuff length/width, wrist knitting, interior waist adjustment, general fit, and snorkel hood). It is the same, only better (and 40+ years newer). The hood fur really does zip off, which will help in less frigid, windy times. My trusty old N-3B will be donated to those needing cold weather protection, and should continue to serve them for years.

Worth it!
Love this Coat! Keeps you Warm! Plenty of Pockets. Very handsome coat! I get compliments all the time when I wear it.On extremely rainy days, I love the fact I don't have to be bothered with a cumbersome umbrella! Keeps the Water out, & keeps you dry & warm! When I'm covered up with the Hood, feels like I'm in my bed with my feathered down queen comforter over my head..

More room than an Alpha Ind Slim Fit Parka
5’ 10” 210 lbs. Wide shoulders, 47” chest. It is a little tight in the back if I hold my arms forward. As a military jacket I expect it to be roomy. If I had to lay under a vehicle in the wintertime, I believe it wiuld keep me warm, but reaching could cause difficulties. It is much better fitting than Alpha Industries Slim fit parka in x large or 2x large. Both of those were very tight in the back. This jacket needs more room in the back to facilitate easy reaching, but I will keep it.

In the end, she decided to keep it ~ even thought the color was inaccurate.
The coat is fine ~ very warm, I mean VERY warm. That's the primary purpose, of course. That said, the color that is shown on Amazon is NOT the color that arrived. It's a deep, deep Navy or Midnight Blue, while on the website it shows a steelier color. I was disappointed in that inaccuracy but NOT in its usefulness. Just choose your color wisely and know what to expect.

Good in the cold
I really like this coat. I ordered it big but it fit as expected. It was -25 with wind chill today. I put on an extra sweater today and it was fine for a 1/4 mile walk to work. For temperatures in the 10’s I thought the coat alone was fine. I live in Wisconsin so that is not that cold. The hood really breaks the wind, one of the reasons I ordered this coat. One thing, the buttons could be sewed on better. The zipper seems good. The pockets are big, I like that.
