Summing up what others wrote
I bought 2 of these (need to switch to 2nd mid treatment) and had 1st chemo treatment last week. Can't speak to the effects of it yet but I bought a 3rd, for a backup, so I can write another review in a few months. I took the advice of others about balling up a dish towel inside the cap to mold it, leaving the gel packs in (more on that below) and putting in a zip lock bag so you don’t get freezer stink. You can bring them in a little cooler. I put mine in a mid size bag with room for book, cell phone, snacks, etc. BTW, nurses won't necessarily offer to freeze them for you so you may need to handle this yourself. We bought a freezer to put in our truck (backseat) that freezes to below 0. People say to put on before chemo, maybe just when your seated for chemo and consider a 3rd for the trip home. More on leave packs in cap in freezer, per another reviewer, "gel packs become inflexible if you deep freeze them, so I put the entire hat onto a head sized inverted bowl, so the hat will fit nicely over your head even immediately after removing from the freezer." Good luck on keeping your lovely locks!!!

Covers my whole head
I bought three of these to wear before, during & after chemotherapy. I’ve read that your hair falls out because chemotherapy heats your hair follicles up so the idea is to keep them cool. The only problem I have (not sure what the solution is) is that it takes like 6-8 hours for a chemotherapy treatment. First there’s bloodwork then you see the doctor finally you go to receive infusions. Chemotherapy is the last infusion so you’re there 5-7 hrs before you get it & it’s hard to keep hats cold, let alone frozen. I just had my first infusion & I only kept them in the freezer overnight so before my next one I am going to freeze for about a week & see if that helps. These hats are exactly as advertised, I just have to find a way to keep them cold over a long period of time. I would recommend them to anyone considering purchasing.

It actually works, worth the money
This item works well, I just wish it had more coverage, possibly going further down the back of your head. I use it because my head always feels hot and I've been losing hair because I have Lupus. I find that it is very cooling and comforting, although the cooling effect wears off after a few minutes because of the ice packs losing their coolness oh, but it does do the trick. I find that if I press the cap into the temple area it helps cool it better because it tends to not really sit tight on your head in that area. I'm thinking of also getting a small ice pack just to put on the back of my neck along the hairline because that area is a good place to cool off also.A couple of helpful tips... be very careful not to get your hair wrapped up in the velcro when you are adjusting the velcro closure. secondly, I take two dish towels and ball them up and put them inside the cap to help it keep its shape, and then I put it in a Ziploc freezer bag to keep it from smelling like freezer stink. This method so far has worked well and help the cap keep its shape. I saw others commenting on how when it was left flat in the freezer that it would be hard to shape it into the shape you want for your head. I recommend stuffing it with something to help keep it round for when you want to use it. I suppose you could also keep it in the refrigerator if you don't want such an intense cooling effect and then it wouldn't be so necessary to keep it in a round shape. I might experiment with putting aluminum foil over the top of the cap to keep the cold in longer when I'm wearing it. That would be quite a sight!I do feel that using it regularly will help slow down my hair loss. I saw an improvement after the first time I used it.

A bit heavier than I expected. Not very comfortable.

Perfect for my migraines
I kept my hopes pretty low for this product but I just needed something and fast. I have a brain malformation that causes my skull to put pressure on my cerebellum and that gives me very painful, long lasting migraines. Usually, I take a bunch of medicine, rig up some ice pack situation out of 3 different ice packs and lay down with it. I’m constantly having to adjust the ice packs because they slip out of place all the time and that alone is a migraine within itself. I needed something that would cover my temples, forehead, back of the head, and top of the head, and even 3 ice packs couldn’t reach all those spots. Well this arrived in the mail today and I popped it in the freezer right away. I started to feel some slight head pain so I tried it on. My lord, this thing is AMAZING. It covers literally every spot on my head that needs it and it’s comfortable. I can see it being too heavy for walking around with it on but luckily (and not so luckily) for me, my migraines leave me completely incompasitated so I have no choice but to lay down. The ice packs in the hat aren’t too hard, but not too soft either so there’s just enough pressure. It’s also made of a great fabric that protects your skin from getting too cold. I guess my only complaint would be that I have very thick hair so I can feel the coolness more on my forehead lol

Great for chemo!
I ordered a few of these for my mother, for chemo. They defrost kind of fast but they aren't necessarily meant for the use she used them for. She would take 3 of them to her chemo and 3 would last plus the ride home. She was happy that she managed to finish 12 weeks of chemo and kept about 50% of her hair. The nurses gave a lot of praise to these caps! Unfortunately, you will loose hair but she never got bad enough to have to shave her head. She finished chemo and after just a month she has short hair but it is a full head of hair. She was very concerned with the hair loss side affect. These helped her get through it and keep her confidence! I HIGHLY recommend these!

Not good
Putting it into the freezer to get cold and of course it freezes solid, I mean immovable! so to put it on your head that’s already hurting is impossible. I don’t recommend this at all.
