Should have come with the MFT in the first place
These should have come with the MFT--it's annoyingly wobbly without them, and for $625, work table really should be more solid.Even light hand-tool use is too much for the MFT as it ships. And I'm not talking about flattening boards with a hand plane here--just doing some light chiseling to clean up a joint, or using a pull saw to make a small cut in a workpiece clamped to the MFT causes it to rock back and forth. These cross members make a world of difference. No, you can't use a jointer plane on it, but at least it's stable enough now that you could clamp something to it and use a pull saw or a block plane or some sandpaper without the table moving on you.

You can get by without them
There is a slight up tick in less wiggle of a foldable composite table, however I used the space under my table to store items and the two bars slice out a decent about of usable space.

Great for hand tool use on MFT.
I love the MFT/3 and these stabilizer bars just add to its functionality. I can now hand plane on it without losing too much energy to the unwanted movement of the table. Sure, I could hand plane on it before, without the support braces but it just wasn’t as efficient. I don’t think the MFT needs these braces if you’re not using hand tools, it’s surprisingly sturdy out of the box but if you are a hand tool user, these are definitely worth it.

Don't expect one set of these bars to stabilize the entire table.
As others have noted, these work great but not a 5 star item. I want to point out they are intended to only fasten one side. That side is rock solid, you could plane the hardest oak or maple without a quiver. HOWEVER, the other side trembles like an off balance washing machine. Do yourself a favor and order 2 sets. The stability you gain is totally worth it. You can still fold the bars and snap them on to the cross support. One rides above the bar, the other below. I am a huge Festool fan, but stuff like this should come with the table or be packaged in a set of 4.

helpful not completely rock steady but this is for a portable table...
These are well made and made in germany. use a wrench to loosen the bolt on the bottom first. The nylock nut has a strong hold and will strip out the plastic seat if the nut is not cracked first. They are helpful but don't expect the mft to perform like at true woodworkers bench for hand planes. I will probably connect 2 mft together and ad another set of these: then it should be stable as a rock.

These are a great addition to the MFT3 I bought from Amazon almost two years ago. I might get another set but the two make a really big difference to the stability of my work table. Very easy to assemble and solid as you would expect. Also, I bought these on the warehouse sight and saved quite a few pennies.

I don't know how one could own a MFT/3 without these cross members.
I find that a pair is good enough to help stabilize the MFT. Honestly, I don't know how one could own a MFT/3 without these cross members. It's completely necessary if you are going to be putting any sort of lateral pressure. Minus 2 star because they should have come standard. I'm not going to complain about the price like others. It's a choice to buy Festool, but these should be part of the design or come standard. You don't realize you need the cross members until you do.

Required Purchase for any MFT
These stabilizers REALLY improve MFT operations. But $90? HHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAThese should be $49 a pair and at least one pair should already come with the MFT set (none with the MFT Basic). I use two pairs on mine... it's now very, very stable. I hope it's obvious that I didn't pay full price. Watch for Amazon Warehouse sales.

MFT steht sicherer
