Good value in a basic tool.
Good plating. Useful shape. Certified to be Accurate. Inexpensive enough to keep a few around to check the accuracy of your digital scales as you work. If you are weighing something around a kilogram, and your scale reads 1005 grams, for instance, you can tare the scale (set it to zero) with this 1 kilogram weight on the scale. This 'zeros' out the error in your scale near the weigh of the object to be weighed, providing a more accurate measurement. If you are measuring an object that weighs 1200 grams, and you 'tare' the scale at zero and read 5 grams of error with the 1 Kilogram calibration weight there is a half percent (0.5 %) error in your scale. At 1200 grams that 0.5% error will be 6 grams. When you calibrate at 1 kilogram, and zero the scale there, and measure your 1200 gram object, the reading will be 201 grams. Adding in the weight of the calibration mass at 1,000 grams, yields a measured weight of 1201 grams, reducing the error to 1 gram, or 0.08%. Precision scales are seriously inexpensive. By calibrating with a set of test weights in the zone of interest, you can seriously improve upon the readings of a simple digital scale, and do so with increased confidence that the results are good. Make any sense?

Great calibration weight!
The weight came in a bubble wrapped envelope with some thin tissue paper wrapped over it, sort of light packing given it is 1 Kg. , it arrived in great shape though being polished and looking new with no dents or rough spots. The only difference is the picture is different from the actual weight sent, refer to : American Weigh Scales 500WGT 500 Gram Calibration Weight, that is the shape the weight I received is- 3 1/4" tall by 1 7/8" diameter on the bottom approximately. The top being about 1 5/8" diameter. I actually prefer this shape over the one pictured because it is much easier to grasp and being since it is 1Kg. you have a firm hold on it, the one pictured just looks like it would be hard to handle. I caught this for quite a low price compared to what it is now. I am quite happy with it, given it appears new, not damaged, and is quite accurate. In all fairness, my weight did not come from USA Suppliers like Amazon is showing for the supplier now, so I do not know the quality of the weight from that supplier.

It works as advertised.
This is a very weighty topic, I know, but it seems to work as it is supposed to... in that it sits there all day staying exactly 1KG. It is close enough to help calibrate my 0.00g scale and that is all I needed! Definitely recommend if you need something to work for normal human use (even doubles as a great paperweight on a windy day). If you need a super calibrated/certified piece of metal... then you will have to buy something else that costs a bunch more.

Nice quality.
Hard to love a weight, so gets 4 stars... but really other than price the product is a nice reference weight to check digital scales. I don't have any true NIST standards to compare against, but assuming the weight is at least close, it meets my home needs.

Useful for more than just calibrating scales!
I use mine to hold down a push-to-talk button for extended meetings, and another 500g weight to keep my mouse cord from sliding off the edge of the table when I mouse to the right and pulling when I try to go back to the left.I've found lots of uses for a simple small, heavy weight on my desk.

Don't weigh out right
I had to buy another scale because this calibration weight was off so there for it has my scale off by half the weight and yes it was the right size for the scale but the weight is not right so order from someone else

Perfect as leather weights
Nice leather weights are stupid expensive ($40+ for something in the 1kg range). Got 2 of these (1kg) for $30 total and couldn't be happier. Perfect weight, nice smooth finish, good size and stability (not too wide, but still stable). I don't have a nice scale, but it read them as 1.002 and 1.001kg.

Pretty precise for the price!
I verified the weight on a calibrated laboratory scale and it reads 999.979g, which qualifies for an ASTM E617 Class 4 and OIML R 111-1 Class M1. The weight was delivered with a few minor dents on it but the plating seems unaffected.
