Nice Basic Hand Blender But PLEASE Read Cautions On Using It On Ice (UPDATED)
(WARNING- This is an in-depth review for those who are looking for a lot of information to base buying decisions off of. If you are not interested in reading a long review, see the paragraph labeled THE BOTTOM LINE for a brief summary of this review)I have a rather extensive collection of hand blenders. You might wonder what a person would need all of those blenders for, and that is a very good question. I make a variety of things using hand blenders. I make very large patches of soup during canning season and I need a tall powerful hand blender to handle the soup that I need to blend into a smooth texture.I make lotions. This means that although the ingredients I use are all natural, I do need to keep a hand blender dedicated to doing lotions. That does require a powerful one, but not quite as deep as the one I use for soup.I also am getting into doing soaps. In order to reach trace, it is important to have a dependable hand blender which will run smoothly and powerfully enough not to burn out when making soap. Again, I prefer to keep this hand blender dedicated to the task which makes it easier to use and clean appropriately. Also, I prefer to have a backup or two. That way if I am in the middle of a project and one burns out, I can easily continue with the new replacement. So, although I have the Cuisinart Smart Stick 2 Speed Hand Blender, Brushed Stainless Steel. which I have been using in soups at preserving time and beyond for about 7 years or so, I will not be using this in my review as a comparison model as it is quite old.In this review I will be comparing the Chefman 300W to Ovente HS583B Robust Stainless Steel Immersion Hand Blender with Beaker and Whisk Attachment, Black and the Braun MQ725 Multiquick Hand Blender, Black .WHAT IS THE CHEFMAN LIKE?First of all, the Chefman comes put together in one piece in a nicely packaged box which protects the blender well. (I am talking about the product, not the shipping). The handle is a rubbery textured body which makes it easy to hold on to, even when hands are a bit wet. The top is slightly contoured and there is a slow speed and a fast speed. Each speed has a different button to press. The bottom blender unscrews from the top for washing. It is easy to do, and seems to hold in place despite it not being spring loaded.STAINLESS STEEL LENGTHThe bottom itself is only 5 1/2 inches of stainless steel. The Ovente is 7 1/2 inches and the Braun is 8 inches. That means that you can only use it in about four inches of liquid comfortably and safely.BLADE LENGTHThe blades in this are about halfway between the Braun and Ovente. They are thinner than the Braun but similar shape and size. They are about 1/3 bigger than the Ovente.CORDThe cord is about 56 inches long (it is curled from storage, so it could be slightly longer). The Braun is the same, and then Ovente is about 3 inches shorter.WEIGHTThe weight of this is equal to the Ovente, and about half the weight of the Braun. That indicates to me that there are more plastic parts in it.QUIETThis is a very quiet machine, the others are slightly louder, but not by much.DOES THIS STAND UP ON ITS OWN?Yes, you can stand this on a flat solid surface and it will stand up without tipping over.WARRANTYIt has one year with phone number and email address for problems with the model number printed on every page for reference of the operation guide.DOES THIS DO ICE?I have to be honest with you. One of the things I do not like about many hand blenders is that they advertise on the box that this will work on ice, however, in the instructions it specifically says NOT to use on hard objects such as pits, bones, or ANY OTHER HARD MATERIAL. That means that the kind of ice you can use this on is ice that is already crushed. YOU CAN NOT USE THIS ON ICE CUBES, YOU WILL BREAK IT. My suggestion to you is if you plan to use this with ice, you put water in your blender, put in some ice cubes, run the blender to crush the ice, strain it and then use the crushed ice in your hand blender smoothie.PERFORMANCEI used this in some soup with chicken in it that was cut into teeny tiny pieces. There were no other hard items in it, but cooked veggies and onions. The blender worked beautifully on the soup and was quiet and strong. The high speed was best to use, as I felt the slower speed was struggling a bit too much. I also used this on soft fruit blends and it worked nicely. The motor does get warm after about five minutes. The best way to use this type of blender is to use it in spurts of power. Use for about 15-30 seconds and then turn it off for a second as you rearrange your pan or scrape the edges. Then use it again. If you do it that was instead of constant running with no breaks, it will last longer and not get hot as easily. I did notice that it got very warm when using it to make mayonnaise in a cup that came with the Ovente. I prefer to use a blender or food processor for mayonnaise, but it is doable.COMFORTI did not think that this was comfortable to hold. It says it is ergonomic but I find that the Ovente and the Braun (and Cuisinart I have which is not part of this comparison- LOL) are all more comfortable to hold and use. It is not bad though and tolerable. The buttons are able to be pushed well and the blender is easy to pull up and push down.DOES THIS STICK TO THE BOTTOM?Amazingly, this blender does not get attracted to the bottom as easily as the other blenders. It seems to have less of a suction than the others which makes it a bit easier to work with.THE BOTTOM LINEI love the color of this hand blender. It has a nice rubbery grip so it won't slip easily if your hands are a bit wet. The blending steel is quite short which makes it useful for more shallow projects than the others. The blades seem to do a good job and the motor is pretty quiet compared to the others, but the others are not overly loud either. This does come apart for cleaning and seems to stay together well when using. If you take care of this hand blender and only use it for soft cooked foods, soft fruits and veggies, and CRUSHED ice only, you can get it to last longer. It is not to take the place of a regular blender or hand mixer, or stand mixer.Due to the shorter length, and handle not being quite as comfortable as the others I have used, I am giving this four stars. I will use it however, with my soap or lotion in the future, so as I continue to use it, I will report on any further insight or information that might help you in your buying decision.UPDATEI have been using this blender for lotions and am happy to say that all has worked out VERY well for me so far. I have not tried out any soaps yet, which is going to really be a test, but I wanted to tell you how it has worked for lotions. No problems with being slowed down or struggling and the results went well, although I did find that one of the lotions got too many bubbles in it and I had to try to get them out afterward. HAHA I hope the soap does not do that.

[UPDATED] Died on very first use...
Note: this is an updated review, previously one star. I received a defective blender that gave out while making a lemon aioli, which was ridiculous. The company, however, reached out to me via email and was more than willing to replace the product. I think it certainly says a lot about a company's business mode when they are willing to reach out to dissatisfied consumers (I didn't reach out to them; they emailed me first). Long story short, I got my blender today and it works. The broken blender threw a huge wrench into an important VIP dinner, but mistakes happen, and I won't hold this boo boo against the company.

My favorite kitchen appliance
This is the best immersion blender ever. It has replaced my blender and food processor. I have had one for 6 months and the blade never gets dull. I make salsa, smoothies, mayonnaise, sorbet, soup, sauces, etc. I also chop garlic and onions with it. It is very easy to clean also. One of my kitchen essentials.

Broke on first day of use, after second try
We received the item two days ago and used it for the first time today. The white plastic circle piece from the inside of the holder/handle came off, and now the removable part won’t lock into place anymore, rendering the blender unfit for use. I sent the seller a message about the issue. Will update if I hear back from seller.

Sturdier than plastic versions for soap making
I started with a less expensive version that has a plastic arm with steel blades. It worked alright for mixing soups but not so much for soap making. I blend my own body and hand wash using aloe, honey, glycerin and castile soap. Plastic one burnt out after 3 months of average use. About once a week mixing soaps. This baby has a steel arm and blades. It's much heavier that the plastic one but in a good way. It's just as easy to hold but feels sturdier. It has absolutely no problem mixing thicker fluids such as honey and aloe Vera gel. This is truly the multi tasker stick blender.

Excellent Product - Deserves SIX stars!
Less than 2 hours after I opened the package I made a smoothie (strawberries, blueberries + cranberry juice). Odd combo, but it was all I had in the fridge; I'll be shopping for other ideas later today. It was quick, easy and delicious. I can't believe I waited so long to get an immersion blender. It's soooo much easier to use than my conventional blender for some things.I was so impressed by the results with the smoothie that I made homemade tomato soup. After simmering the ingredients for 1/2 and hour, I used the immersion blender to blend the onions and peeled tomatoes (along with the seasonings and butter). Man, I couldn't believe how velvety the soup became and how easily the ingredients just "melted" together. I don't know which is better - the way it performs or the EASE of cleanup - just pop the shaft with the blades off the handle and run under water - presto, ready for the next recipe. I'm having so much fun I may be able to feed the entire neighborhood their dinner!

Love it!
I purchased this product because I make a lot of soups and was tired of transferring hot soup to my standing blender. This item has been great! It has more power (300W) than an another product I had researched through Consumer Reports as best rated, and much cheaper. You know it has good power when you feel it pull down from the spin and suction it creates when blending. My daughter used it to blend up fresh fruit for a smoothie and it was very smooth with no chunks left. We found there was little to no splatter or splash back and it whipped cream very quickly and easily. Clean up is ultra quick with the detachable blade!I also really like that if you take your fingers off the power it stops immediately. Some users like a hand blender that locks into the 'ON' position. From a safety perspective, you are asking for trouble. If you do get splashed and flinch away, or drop the hand blender, you don't want it staying in the 'ON' position and continuing to blend with no control. The minute you release your hand, the blender should stop.I have not blended anything frozen with this and likely never will. I have a small bullet-type blender which I use to make frozen smoothies or crush ice.So far (5 or 6 times used) I have had zero issue and really love this product!

Didn't last two months with light duty use
I was so excited to get my teal Chefman stick blender for my birthday this past October! Gone were the days of scooping into a blender, or having to make salad dressing in steps! But, Christmas was ruined! This year we went home made, and started making a batch of home made baileys for the Grandpa. Get into the bowl of condensed milk and whiskey....and thunk! The blade and rod came out of the shaft! Boy, did I feel shafted! It appears that a snap ring has rusted out already in less than two months use, rendering the whole thing useless! I was so disappointed, as I held out that the good amazon reviews outweighed the bad! I am saddened that I now have to revert to scooping and blending once again.

Updating my review
Thank you to Chefman and their stellar customer service. I bought their Immersion Stick Hand Blender only to have it burn out after a few uses. When I contacted them, they got back to me promptly and sent me a replacement, as they were certain I had just gotten a defective unit. I haven't yet used the replacement and hope it doesn't burn out as well, but I'm very impressed with their handling of this situation. It's very unfortunate that good customer service is such an outlier these days, but it just is. Chefman is one of the good ones.

Affordable, Compact, Easy to Clean, Quiet, Multi-Use and Powerful!
I bought this to make baby food, but decided to see if it would make my morning smoothie too. Wow!!!! I am impressed!!! Move over, Ninja! Not only does this little hand blender turn frozen berries into a drink, it is quiet enough that I can operate it while my baby sleeps in the next room! I used to have to wait to make my smoothie if the baby was napping. Now I can have my smoothie and drink it too! It's incredibly easy to clean as well! No fuss, just twist off the shaft attachment and wash it in less than a minute! I had hesitated to purchase, because I thought "Do I really need this?" The answer is YES!!!My only (huge!) regret is that I didn't buy this sooner! I'll only pull out the blender for much bigger jobs now.I am one satisfied buyer. This will easily handle many kitchen functions, saving time, counter space and sanity!

Not too happy with this product
Not too happy with this product. Used it the first time making homemade soap and all was ok. Handle got really hot but we made it through. Second time I made soap, it heated up again but this time totally quit. I haven't been able to get it to work since. Disappointing especially when this was the model recommended on a soap making site.
