You should be able to as long as your mic stand uses standard threading, which it should :D

I don't have any issues. My Shure SM7B is on a Blue Compass boom arm and you can easily adjust the mic anyway you like. Sorry you're having trouble.

Are both threads 5/8 inch standard?

Yes. Same threading at male and female ends.
