I was looking for a desk, not too expensive and not too Ikea or Ashley. Also, I tend to be a bit of a nomad. I move on short notice, so when I found this company's products described as for such people - I took notice. The style and the color of the bamboo in person, is better than in the pictures. Yes, if you order a peninsula with the desk, the grain will probably not match. It's bamboo, that's hard to do especially when it's not in a set. It still looks good.Very sturdy, no real wiggle and is a hard desk. I had a nice veneer on solid wood desk, but this blows that away. For the price, and with free super saver shipping it only took 5 business days to get to me via ABF. ABF was very prompt and everything was in excellent condition.Looking forward to buying probably the bookcase and coffee table to replace the cheap junk I have now. If you're looking for affordable, well-made, easy to assemble/disassemble furniture: look no further. And no, it is not cheaper on ebay!

You probably thought as I did that it's Honey Amber. I mean if I look at the photograph and magnify it, it's a nice rich warm color with interesting striations. That's not the case in real life. Do you know the color of plywood? The colorless kind that's almost like white. I think they call that color either natural or simply wood. Meaning the closest thing to no color at all. There isn't a hint of the tone honey, amber, tan, light brown, light orange or even a hint of beige. It looks like cheap plywood and it's hard to believe that the photo has anything to do with the desk. It looks unfinished. Maybe after 20 years of moisture and soiling it will look a little bit more like the photograph I don't know. But I am not into the business of aging desks. The photo was either heavily photoshopped or photographed with an amber lens. It also looks like it's been freshly sanded. They note that you should allow for some color variation and I was willing to allow for that within the general spectrum of Honey Amber but the desk I received was completely off the dial from that tonal spectrum. As a result, it also looks exceptionally cheap. I think they should have the color listed as natural or colorless.That isn't the whole story. You can see how the inside is a smooth curve. And if you look at the outer apex from the one angle they provide in photos, it looks like the small lip around the desktop slopes down in the middle and meets the other side, flush. But that's not the case. Instead of the panels meeting flush where the two sides meet one panel (they are about 3/8 of an inch thick) extends about 2 1/2 - 3 inches beyond the other panel. You certainly can't see that the photo. If you plan to put an entire side of the desk against the wall than that part will be okay but if you plan, as I did, to square one of the sides perpendicular to the wall and then have it cut back at a right angle into the room so that it's parallel to the wall, then you have a panel sticking out that is a hazard for any passerby as it's thin and blends in with the background of the desk but is sharp enough to bruise or otherwise hurt a passerby who walks close to the desk.It's not any fault of Amazon. They don't open the boxes and check the desk. They may not even be stored in their warehouse but come out from the manufacturer's warehouse I've no idea. I also saw this desk and many other websites and it looked the same so it's amazing that it's so far off its depiction They just post the picture so no blame to Amazon, but the manufacturer's listing is extremely deceptive and you should be aware of it before you plunk down your money because it's a giant pain to repack the box and get UPS to pick it up. I returned mine and Amazon was very gracious about that. But it wasn't easy for me to pack it all up nice and tidy and I waited on three separate days for UPS scheduled pickup that never showed up. I live in Los Angeles so I'm not out in the sticks. But it really ruined my schedule waiting for them and I had to make maybe 30 phone calls before I finally got them to show up and take it away. Amazon refunded my money and it's onward and upwards but what a waste of time. It looks like it might be a cool nest right? Forget about it.

The bad:Bought 4 different pieces of furniture. Awesome design. But the finish is not consistent. Very different tones, probably due to different batches of bamboo. Some light and very few connection nodes, extremely well polished and no clear lacquer that I can detect. The others sharper corners, much rougher, completely different finish (I guess newer batch), strong smell of lacquer. Some small dents (that can be hidden due to reversibility of the panels) obviously did not come from transportation. More likely from handling at the origin. Now I have a desk and 2 extensions in 3 different shades. I understand the concept of natural variation in the bamboo fiber, but this is way off. Sorry, that costs 2 stars in my view. It's a shame when you design a beautiful product and then you can't keep up the quality.The good:looks sturdy, very easy to put together (just make sure you know what configuration you want, otherwise you have to take it apart almost completely to change the height of a shelf).Modern, unique design. Haven't seen anything similar online.Price was not bad through Amazon, much cheaper than via the manufacturer's website.Ships directly from Legare via ABF; make sure you inspect the boxes before signing.Overall I don't regret the acquisition. Hopefully it will last at least a few years with no serious damage to the finish from regular wear.Update 1/23/2011:I got used to the differences in color and finish between the various parts of this furniture set, I can't say it bothers me that much anymore. I received some positive comments from visitors too. The only thing that I can't get used to is the fact that the corner desk top plank is not level with the 2 extensions, there is a difference in hight of about 1 cm in the front, none in the back. When I rest my elbows on the extension, I get another centimeter of movement down, so that makes almost one inch difference. And just the fact that the extension surface goes up and down when you touch it is terrribly annoying. Sorry, still 3 stars, mainly for the neat design.

I was looking for something small to fit in the corner and this fits the bill. Easy to assemble without any screws or tools. The light bamboo wood looks great and can take a good wear & tear approach from the family. The nice thing is that it's a little deaper, so although small, there is plenty of room.

Beautiful and sturdy desk. Tons of storage space and easy to assemble. Very happy with it. Shipping was super fast.

Wish I had more room in my home office for additional pieces of this project. Easy to put together. Sturdy upon completion. Excellent, professional look. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

I hate this desk the pieces do not fit together like they were suppose to. If I had kept the box I surely would have returned it. The only thing I like about this desk is the color!!
