Good introductory book to basketball.
I had gotten this book for my son who started playing basketball, so he had some understanding of how to play the game. Well it does talk about the very basics, I was kinda wishing it had a lil more. Even a 2nd book that goes into more depth as the child get older and more understanding of the game. When we first read the book, he was more interested in what team was going to win, than some of the rules. Overall its still a good basic book for young kids I'd say between 5-7yrs old that are just starting to play, or just interested in the game. It did help to repeat some of the lessons/rules he learned at basketball practice.

Teaches the basics of the game
I have a 2 year old who is obsessed with basketball. He's constantly saying 'hoop, hoop' and 'basketball' so I figured it's never too early to teach him about the game! I came across the Gail Gibbons sports themed books and had to buy them. This book teaches children the basics of the game, all of the positions and how the game is scored. Some things are definitely over my 2 year old's head at this point but I think this will be a great book for him when he's around 4 years old.

Smart Little Book
My son loves sports, particularly basketball. As a first grader, he loves to play and this book helps him understand that there are rules of play. He has really increased his "sports IQ" by reading and studying the books in this series. Pay attention to the dimension description. This book was smaller than I expected, but that's my fault for assuming as opposed to confirming.

Helping develop an interest and love for basketball at an early age
Gail Gibbons Baseball book is excellent and this one on Basketball tops it. The highest compliment I can give is with a photoof my oldest grandson having fallen asleep with his "My Basketball Book" in his hands on his chest . Simply amazing how he hasfound out so much and recognizes many of the aspects of the game at age two . I'll have to ask my daughter if we can forward the pictureof him asleep with the book on his chest. Ms. Gibbons would be thrilled I'm sure !

Not for toddlers unless you have a sport nut.
This book series is really great at introducing the sport rules and language to your child. It's not the easiest read for a toddler with a short attention span. Multiple sentences per page and not an entertaining read for the parent if you have to read it multiple times in a row. The drawings are great and my 2yr old son will just look at them and talk about what's going on.
