Q: Can I use it for desinfecting a tank for potable water ?

Use 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water. This makes your purifying solution. This solution may be used 1 part solution to 100 parts water. This means about 3/4 fluid ounce per gallon. Give it some dwell time after treating. Smell to make sure you have a 'pool water' smell but not too bad. Pour the water between containers to aerate it if it's too strong. This doesn't help with metals or particulates but rather 'living things' in the water. It won't help you make mud water potable; just use some common sense.

I never notices an expiration date but I have had them sit in the garage over the winter and worked well the following summer.

Q: Does this product have any stabilizer in it? (some shocks do)

No. Calcium Hypochlorite (CalHypo) is NOT stabilized. It will NOT add Cyanuric Acid to your pool. BUT - It WILL add Calcium Hardness to your pool. If you are not careful to monitor your calcium levels - you will get calcium lines at your water level, and in severe cases - line your PVC pipes with clogging calcium (ask me how I know). ONLY use this if you need to Shock your pool - NOT for increasing chlorine levels.

Q: Can this be used in an in-ground vinyl pool?

That’s what I have and have had no issues using this shock.
