Purchased the Cambro 12x18 tub at a local restaurant supply store, but they did not have any lids. Checked the Cambro website, and they want more for the lid than I paid here on Amazon. We plan to use the tub/lid for our Sous Vide. I will put a hole in middle of lid the size of the sous vide unit.

Great for sous vide water bath. I cut out a u-shaped hole at one end for my water bath heater/circulator. Used a hole saw on it and a band saw and no issues with the plastic - I was as gentle as possible of course. It fits my circulator with 1/4 inch all around as I wanted and definitely cuts evaporation and heat loss.

I received a different lid, like others in the reviews. The lid I received was already notched out. I was intending do do this as I will be using it with my sous vide but the notch is quite a bit larger than my sous vide. I was planning on getting the full lid and cutting it myself, which I would have had a more snug fit a less air/moisture loss but it's not a huge deal. Not going to bother returning it and looking for another, it will do.

It fits the box it is supposed to fit, does so with a good firm fit but doesn't snap tight. It is meant for keeping other things out of your food box, not as a tight enclosure like a Tupperware container. It is properly designed and a lot of thought went into it for preventing cross contamination. Food juices that land on top either remain there or are allowed to run off the side without dripping into the box itself.I would have like to see it made a bit thicker or internal reinforcing ribs for strength however. A checkerboard of ribs would make this thing all but indestructible but add very little to the cost of production. The plastic itself feels like it won't give much, and it feels brittle, but it seems pretty strong given reasonable normal use and no accidents. It has actually turned out better than I anticipated.It's got a couple of external anti-slide ribs on top as seen in the photo. These allow for containers to be stacked and is well designed for that purpose, as it helps lock multiple units together and prevent them from sliding. They don't snap together and you wouldn't want that, but when dealing with cold wet food containers, it's enough to allow them to be stacked several high on a flat surface.I'm okay with the purchase and will see how long it lasts while treating it with kindness. Personally, I think it's a bit over priced, but it's what they make and it works. Bottom line, I'd buy them again but would like to see Cambro add a little strength for the kind of money that is being charged.
