Spigen Ultra Hybrid Designed for Samsung Galaxy S8 Case (2017) - Jet Black

This review is for both for the Spigen [Ultra Hybrid] and [Neo Hybrid] models for the Galaxy S8.The Ultra Hybrid is great case for those looking for a ‘clear’ option. I also bought a Neo Hybrid model, which is said to offer somewhat increased protection compared to the Ultra Hybrid model. While I cannot confirm this – I believe both these cases offer a similar scope of protection.The Neo Hybrid is slightly longer, and somewhat slippery compared to the Ultra Hybrid due to the hard PC bumper frame. Generally speaking, the Ultra Hybrid seems to offer more grip, even though it has a solid (non-flexible back), thus inspiring increased confidence when handling. I also find the Ultra Hybrid easier to handle due to its slightly smaller footprint. The Neo Hybrid does however, has slightly more space between itself and the side curved edges of the screen on the Galaxy S8, which is really nice compared to the Ultra Hybrid which appears to ride slightly ‘higher’. This gives an impression that the Neo Hybrid allows for more of the screen on the Galaxy S8 to be both visible and reachable. For example, the edge lighting is far more visible on the Neo Hybrid even though it is encased in a matte black rubber compared to the Ultra Hybrid’s clear TPU.Having used both of these cases for a few days, I tend to favor the Ultra Hybrid to the Neo Hybrid both due to the aforementioned smaller footprint, as well as the increased grip factor. However, as I mentioned, the Neo Hybrid rides lower on the sides of the Galaxy S8’s curved screen, thus allowing access to more of the screen on the Galaxy S8.

Impressive. Seems like it will protect sides and back while looking tres chic! Corners have extra buffer protection. Buttons perfect. Slips into pocket without friction.Con? Front is vulnerable, rising above the edge of the case. If dropped flat, it would hit.I installed Spigen screen protector against scratches and light impact.Update after about 8 months. Downgrade from 5 to 2 stars. Second Spigen I purchased because the first one turned yellow like an on an old white t-shirt armpit .I did drop my phone flat on the pavement. Ouch! Don't do that! The front glass broke. Spigen did not protect it and neither did the plastic armor covering it. Cost with tax to repair around $238.00!!! Case gives about 1/32" front depth protection.This second spigen was on the way to turning yellow, when one of the sides separated from the back! Flexible sides, stiff back; two materials somewhat fused together. I use my phone during workout. Phone slips sideways into my belt holder. I pull it out to check which weights come next, how many reps. So I pull it out from the side. Case broke. Can't use it broken. Must discard it!There are many brands of clear case to choose from, so I purchased a Comsoon that has a single molded piece so side can't pull away. Front of case gives about 1/16" depth protection, double the Spigen depth. Corners look much more cushioned on this new case.Will this Camsoon case turn yellow? Have to wait a while to find out.

So first of all, it looks great. It's clear, I got the matte black sides, fantastic. Secondly, it feels really good to hold. The TPU sides are smooth and soft, the back is smooth and hard. And the buttons, oh man, the buttons give better tactile feedback than any other spigen case I've tried. Great stuff.However, a couple problems, mostly to do with the back piece. The reviews don't lie- it is SMUDGE CITY. Absolutely all the time and it's not easy to just wipe off. It's not like your phone screen where it's got an oil resistant coating, your prints just smeeeear all over. Also, it's very slippery when you set it down on like, the arm of your couch. Anything that would slip with the phone naked would slip here. It's also very easily scratched. And being clear you see every single speck of dust trapper between the phone and the case. Of you're particular about that, this case is an utter nightmare. Lastly, idk if it was just my case or if it's a wide issue, but it was really tough to put on initially. It's in there very tightly.Personally, I probably won't use this case as much as I'd like to. I always default back to the Rugged Armor Extra. But this one feels lovely.

I bought this case in April, the day I got my S8. It fit nicely and let the beauty of the phone shine through, but it's shot already. The sides are breaking off from the back of the case. I don't do anything that would have caused this except removing the case on occasion to clean the phone.I've never even dropped the phone. It's very disappointing because I really liked it. I guess it's time to start shopping for a replacement.Update: Heard back from Spigen. They refuse to do anything about this. Horrible support for a defective product.Another update: I originally contacted Spigen but apparently the people in Singapore are not very cooperative. Sent another email (not sure where they are but contacted them through their Facebook page) and they're sending a replacement.Changing to 4-stars based on the rapid response.

Tossed my S8 onto my window ledge and it accidentally landed right through an opening in the screen. Fell from the 2nd story to the gravel.Zero damage to my S8! Great case!

I have had this same cover for my work iphone 8 for the last year and have noticed that it still looks great. On my personal Samsung S8 I had a clear Speck brand case that I got from Best Buy That one starting turning yellow especially around the phone buttons. I tried cleaning it and even soaked it in bleach but once it yellows there is no way to get rid of it.This case is sleeker and feels great in hand. It's very clear which I like since I have a white marble dbrand skin on my phone. I'm not planning on dropping my phone anytime soon to test it but it seems like it would be no worse than my old case. This makes my 2 year S8 look and feel like a newer phone!

So I have spent a few days researching cases and reading reviews and chose this one and the spigen slim armor with card holder (which I returned, don't buy unless you don't mind it being a brick and so slippery it's more of a hazard!)I have to say I was a bit weary after some of the critical reviews on this one, the lack of customer photos (which is why I have uploaded loads!) and it only being 3.4 stars at the time of purchase.But I love it! It should be 4-5 stars.It's slim and not bulky! The TPU sides provide more grip on the phone (something I had ignored the importance of when reading other reviews but makes a huge difference) but appears seemless with the rest of the cover.The cutouts are perfectly aligned but fairly large on the bottom so I hope I don't scratch it up when lazily plugging things in. However if you're using wireless charging then it shouldn't be a problem. It's my only issue with it but that's me nitpicking and probably won't happen.The side buttons are made of a harder plastic so it's much more responsive than those terrible rubber ones where you have to press very hard.I have paired my S8 with the Klearlook tempered glass which seems to fit perfectly with the sides of this cover and it still has a good amount of lip at the top and bottom above the screen.Great product! It's probably the best clear case out there.

I do tend to go for Spiden cases for my phones as I find them well designed and great fitting. This is the case for this one too.Some comments:- This bulks up the S8 which makes it easier to grip- There is a bit of unnecessary writing ("Designed in Irvine California. Made in South Korea" and Air cushion technology") in white on the edges- I haven't performed a drop test on it so can't say how safe it is yet- This works well with a case-friendly screen protector. This is my second Ultra Hybrid case; I previously owned one for my Samsung S8 Plus.My first impressions of this is case is that it's disappointing!The case has sharp edges where my S8 Plus case hasn't. There are lines around the outing of the case which worry me as I'm not sure that this case would survive a drop test on a hard surface.Overall, I still like the feel of case and it's tight fit is unrivalled. It doesn't add too much weight and feels good in the hand despite the sharp edges. The buttons are clicky and responsive with the ports being easily accessible.The sharp edges are a disappointment as I've had to sand them down to avoid the discomfort.I'll give Spigen the benefit of doubt and believe this was just a poor batch.Overall, I would still recommend the Ultra Hybrid series for any device, my product was below the standard I expect from Spigen.

As always this is excellent quality from Spigen.It was for my partner who has the pink S8. The case itself is the same pink and helps keep the original colour on show (previously tried a clear plastic one but it looked hazy and made the phone appear grey).It's a little chunky and is a tad difficult to get on and off the phone but once on it provides excellent protection.

This phone case has protected my phone from any damage. I have dropped my phone multiple times and this case has kept my phone clean of any cracks or scratches. the functionality of the buttons and fingerprint readers are not hindered and the camera is not blocked by the case. This case fits my phone perfectly. This is slightly raised on the front which protects my touch screen from any damages. I am easily able to charge my phone and insert my headphone jack. the hard shell protects the back of my phone and the soft edges moulds well into the structure of my phone. Would highly recommend this phone case, especially to those who are clumsy with their phone like me!
