True weight and excellent sprouts!
After some negative reviews I was worried, but after receiving and using for the first time I have no regrets. I weighed the dried beans in the bag and it came out to a little over 5 pounds as promised. I have never sprouted seeds before so I relied on blogs for directions. I used the jar method, rinsing them with water from my fridge dispenser a few times a day. They began sprouting after only a few hours. I started them on Sunday and by Wednesday we had three jars of beautiful 2" long bean sprouts (they were just starting to develop leaves and roots) and made chop suey, and still had a jar left over. Next time I know to use less seeds - I put half a cup in which was way too much for one quart jar. Luckily I had more jars and lids. Next time I'll only use a couple of tablespoons. Don't rely on the reviews that say they were shorted or the seeds aren't producing. This definitely wasn't my experience. All the seeds sprouted and I can't wait to grow more. The five pound bag should last a very long time!

Great seeds!
These are excellent seeds! They began sprouting just after soaking overnight. They grew quickly and produced large sprouts in just a few days. I actually didn't see a single see that didn't sprout! To grow them, first I soaked overnight. Then I lined a strainer with paper towels and put down about a 1/2 inch of seeds.I put the strainer inside a bowl to catch the water. I rinsed every 12 hours for a few days (4 I believe), kept them covered with a towel so they were in the dark. I used a knife to cut them off the paper towels so the roots were cut off. The roots are edible however, so if you grow them a different way you can just eat the roots. I personally like my sprouts with some leaves, but not too big.Anyway, then I put them in a large bowl and rinsed with water, and the hulls were easy to separate. These are edible too, it's just about preference. :) My five year old and two year old were very interested and we made it into a homeschool project.I ended up with four big bags of sprouts, enough for a week. Five lbs should last quite awhile.Happy sprouting!

Maybe
The seeds sprouted... Very well, maybe 100%.It was supposed to be 5 lbs.; it's actually just a little more than 4 lbs without the weight of the box.I was excited to try this. I've been sprouting alfalfa and radish and broccoli from another company- good.My first batch of these mung beans - odd taste - I eat mung sprouts frequently from grocery stores, never tasted like this. So, I let my second batch go for another 2 days...However, the taste is still a little off and the texture is not as tender as I'm accustomed to... maybe there are quality taste varieties? Maybe the climate here is warmer than the seeds like... I don't know.I'd give it a 4 out of 5 stars.I had received email from the company as follow up... I like that.Would I buy this 5lb mung seeds again- probably not. Would I try something else from this company- maybe yes.

Best way to sprout for use
Since I've gotten these seeds,I have sprouted them twice. Once by the jar methoud (in natural light on counter), the other by YouTube Asian Bean sprout method . Put into a totally dark , warmish area, with used, but clean damp cotton tea towels on both bottom and top of soaked, swelled mung beans in a container. I set it up as 2 clean, empty, plastic 1 gallon+ ice cream containers (square containers - at Wal Mart, "Country Rich' Brand)- and had poked holes (over 40) in bottom of one for draining into the other when rinsing beans 2-3 times a day for 4-5 days. Take the container out of the other and into sink to rinse carefully each time through top damp tea towel over swelled mung beans for 3, 5 second water flushes, every 8 to 10 hrs . Let drain 90-95% in sink. No more than 10 min. May have to tip at angle to get more out. Then a few minutes later put back into other container for last of slowly dripping water and return to darkness ASAP. And don't let standing water set on bottom of either container for long. Dump out last of water within 30 min from bottom container. I also put weight on top of top folded tea towel ( Used two small plastic Juice bottles filled with water from the beginning).Removed to rinse each time, then put back on weight. Constant weight on top and compression on sides and bottom by container causes bean sprouts to grow thicker. To push up like it would in soil as they would grow naturaly as plants. Keep in total darkness again until next rinsing but must have decent ventilation also. Secret to get those nice thick white Asian bean sprouts is 99 % darkness( total soaking, sprouting and growing time) and weight (pressure) on beans, even if its a lot of other beans themselves( its own weight).Check on sprouts occassionly when rinsing by picking up pressed down top tea towel. Rinse to remove green hulls and tiny leaves are ok, as are some/all of the roots, of course. Sorry, my spelling stinks. Why am I explaining all this ? Because I got at least 3xs the volume and nice thick straight longer sprouts than in jar on counter. I used 1 cup dried beans( 7 oz) and got what would be around 2 1/2 lbs of sprouts at the end. More light causes leaves to come quicker , and less thickness / length of sprout. Can of course use other types of plastic containers w/ drain holes. Must experiment for your own needs. Update : When I bought these the word "organic" was in the description title to item. 4 Months later it isn't. Why ....?. I bought seeds to not only use in Asian cooking when I want because I'm handicapped and can't hardly get to the store but because I can't stand paying $1.50 to 1.99 for a Can of bean sprouts. If I had judged the 1st time I sprouted beans by how much I got from the jar methoud I'd be disappointed in the price I paid for them. But the key also to these beans is to know how to grow them for what reason you want them for - as Asian bean sprouts ... or just to eat raw on a salad. Todd's seeds should give directions for both versions, either in the bean's pkging or on their website.. But I am very happy with Quality and how fast they sprouted after intial 8-9 hr soak. Within 12 hrs they started to sprout after soaking period. Grew between 1/2 to 7/8 " a day. And now that I'm learning how to best sprout them for my needs - Asian cooking - I would buy them again but only in bulk (5lbs or more) and with free shipping as on Amazon. Organic is exspensive ....Dah. I estimated I used $1.50 - $1.70 dried beans for $ 4.50 - $6.00 worth of very fresh bean sprouts.

Good results, but prefer US-sourced product
This was my first time growing sprouts. These beans sprouted at a very high rate for me, and they were probably ready in 4 or 5 days. I let them go a little too long, and the leaves started to sprout and the roots got a little overdeveloped. But they still tasted great, and I didn’t notice any unsprouted beans. But I want to know where my food comes from, and it’s vague in the case of these beans. Origin is nowhere on the label or packaging, which I don’t appreciate. For that reason I won’t buy these again.
