Good deal! And i did get 1/2-20 in my order....
First.... just so you know....the ones I received were indeed 1/2"-20nf. I drilled holes in an aluminum plate, first with a drill bit made for metal, then next with a 1/2-20 bottoming tap. This was the first time I've ever drilled metal or used a tap. Watched lots of videos on youtube and even went out and got a press drill (needed one anyway) to play with for this purpose.... I wanted to build a soldering station third/helping hand, which I did successfully. These pipes threaded in perfectly in 5 of the 6 holes I drilled/tapped. Of course the first one was off a bit (hey, was my first tap...) but to compensate I wrapped the thread with some aluminum foil and it threaded nice n' snug. For your info.... you can get inexpensive aluminum bar remnants in many sizes if you search hard enuff. Amazon has sellers selling them, auction websites too. I got a 1/2" thick 5x7 bar for 10 bux shipped from an auction website. Got the pipes and test clips from Amazon. These pipes are a bit stiff at first but do loosen up. The finish of these isn't perfect. There's some thin pieces of plastic left over from the plastic molding process.but nothing a razor blade can't easily fix. This price was a bargain. So for approx 20 bux for materials... and 5 bux for a tap set I got on an auction site.... I built my own third hand for waaaaay less than the sparkfun item or others I've seen. You could get a larger piece of aluminum than I did and still come out waaaaay ahead of the "kits"... my cost was a bit higher since I had to buy the drill press :-). I'm cheap... so I sought a deal on that too. Northern tool had a sale on a discontinued floor standing 16 speed 3/4 hp press.. 149.00.... and it works just fine for my purposes. I know there are way better drills but at way higher prices too.Have fun!

Good product, horrible flashing left over, though.
I used these for soldering arms, so not really their intended purpose, so keep that in mind. These are pretty stiff, which is good for my use, but they also have REALLY pronounced flashing left on them, to the point that they could cut you. This can be remedied with a flush cutter though, as I did.Despite that, they work nice and they're a decent (not great) value.

Love them
You get what you pay for. Yes, the plastic isn't properly trimmed, leaving leftover plastic that needs to be cut off, and they aren't as sturdy, tight, or bend-resistant as loc-line hoses, but they worked amazing for my purposes (poseable LED lights and sensor holders). May not be fit for actual industrial use, but for hobbyist engineers and sculptors these things have tons of uses. My favorite thing is the price

For holding up shields or acting as 3rd hands they are probably great but as coolant hose they seem to be lacking
It depends on what you want to use them for. For holding up shields or acting as 3rd hands they are probably great but as coolant hose they seem to be lacking. They leak badly when we run 15psi of water through them but for the price they are pretty good.

Bought these for soldering helping hands. working very well. strong but easily adjustable. I had no problem twisting off a section or snapping it back together if you want to change size or attach alligator clips through the nozzle, but it does take some strength. I decided to widen the nozzle tip a bit with a drill and slide my clips on - they hold well enough I haven't needed any glue.

Works Great for Helping Hands
Bought these in conjunction with uxcell 10 Pcs 50mm Plastic Handle Test Probe Metal Alligator Clips based on a Real Tool Reviews video on Youtube. Watch his videos if you want to make your own helping hands like I did. Very simple design (these pipes, the alligator clips, an electrical box). I glued these into drilled holes in the electrical box rather than tapping threads. I also attached these on the side of the box rather than the top lid. E6000 worked great for securing these to metal. I used superglue/baking soda to glue the knockout plugs on the electrical box and prevent them from popping out.

Yet another thread size...
I'm using this for a helping hands set up on a PCB vise I've made. When I received them I did a quick check of the thread major diameter and it checked right around 0.5 inch, so I was reasonably confident from all the reviews that the thread would be a 1/2-20 UNF. I printed a part with that thread and the tube would not screw in to my part. Checking the dimensions more closely, it looked like it might be just slightly larger, my thread gauge wouldn't match up to 20 TPI, and the dimensions made it likely it wasn't a metric thread either. Since it was a straight thread, I suspected it might be a British Standard Pipe (BSP) thread, and the dimensions checked pretty closely to a BSP 1/4"-19 thread. Unfortunately the one pitch my thread gauge doesn't have is 19 TPI, but it looked like that should be a match, so I printed a test piece with that thread and it mates perfectly. So it's a reasonable product for what it is and for my usage, but be warned there seems to be no standard thread size for these parts.

using 5 of these as 'helping hands' while soldering.
they work great.I put 5 of these in a 'quad duplex' electrical box weighted with concrete and these alligator clips for a diy/makers 'helping hands' ... works great and cheaper/better than bought version as I have 5 hands.the alligator clips I got from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEFHRQ/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
