I tried mine with a slanted cup, and felt the heating element might touch the side of the cup, so I searched for a vertical cup - and bought this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TS5BQS5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details --- if you already bought the water heater, I recommend you try it out on a slanted cup and see if that works for you. I don't think being collapsable is a problem at all...

Is this allowed on cruise ships?

I've never traveled on a cruise ship, but I can't see why not. You could always check with the cruise line. Also, before you plug it in, make sure it's immersed in water first or you'll burn it out and break it.

I'm not near mine so I don't know if there is a uL listed or not. But what I do know is it is junk don't waste your money on this one. Nothing get hot and it really never got warm.
