The Gospel of John: The First Ever Word for Word Film Adaptation of All Four Gospels [DVD]

A film for everyone
This is the best adaptation of the Gospels I've seen - with an authentic looking Jesus. This film is enjoyable not only for Christians but also for every person who is studying the Gospels, the history of Jesus' life or finding out what the "Good News" are.The actors, music, narrators and the scenery have been chosen so carefully (great director& d.o.p. aswell) and - what seems to me - true to scientific facts - without any pomp - so that watching it, puts you right in the middle of the story. You can choose between watching the film with the narration from the NIV (New International Version - also with english subtitles) or the KJV (King James Version, no subtitles & different narrator) which I also found very interesting and which helps for a better understanding and comparison of these 2 different translation.I hope that this excellent film will be translated in as many languages as possible and that the whole Bible will be filmed like that. The film is also very inspiring - even for people of a different or - like me - of no faith. And - if you're interested in religion in general and have not found your own spiritual path yet, you will want to dig deeper - to search for a way of your own understanding of The Bible and Jesus' teachings.

Not an Accurate Portrayal
I was disappointed with this film. My expectation was that this would be an accurate portrayal of The Gospel of John, on its own terms. I was irritated that in the scenes covering the opening chapter we see flashbacks to the visit of the magi, which is something that actually occurs only in The Gospel of Matthew. This film is guilty of conflating the theological ideas of different gospels, effectively creating its own gospel which is true to none of the originals. This is very common - Mel Gibson did it in The Pasion of the Christ, most primary school nativity plays do it, but I had hoped for more from this series.

Fantastic.
This has to be the best ever production of the Gospel. I now have all four in the same series and am happy to recommend them to everyone. Absolutely brilliant. Even the children in Sunday school have been so engrossed that they haven't wanted it turned off at the end.

Firts class version of John's Gospel.
Excellent version of John's Gospel. Selva Rasalingam gives a fine performance as Jesus, and the sets and cast all look authentic. The film can be watched straight through or in parts, which is useful for study groups.
