O-rings last around 4 months
Excellent product... except for the poor quality of the rubber O-rings that started leaking after around 4 months. In a post-mortem, I found the O-rings are corroded, which you can see in the first pic above. Maybe I got a bad batch, but only 2 out of the 12 still hold water. I will inquire about this with each vendor before ordering any more.HELPFUL HINT: I found that mounting these directly on the side of standard 5-gallon buckets was not optimal - the bucket plastic is too soft to keep a strong seal over time. Instead, I mounted a short lengths of threaded PVC pipe thru the sides of the bucket with a cap on each extruded end, and mounted the nipple in the end of the cap -- the PVC plastic is much stronger, and I've experienced no leaks at all after that (until the O-rings started to fail).6/11/2019: Now using replacements from another vendor with clear O-rings instead of black. So-far-so-good, I'll report back on how they are doing in 4-6 months!

Very easy to use!
I finally took the plunge and decided to try these. I found food grade buckets at my local Home Improvement store, with lids. I drilled a test hole in the lid first just to make sure it was the right size for the nipples. The 11/32 in is perfect. It was really easy to put together, and I was surprised that the nipples don't leak at all. I put 4 in each bucket, and with this pack it will do three buckets. This is going to save me so much time not having to fill all the little waterers in the two coops. I showed three hens how to work it, and it seems to be going well!

These are working for me
I used these to set up a waterer for my brooder. Drilled 3 holes in the sides of a coffee can using a 3/8” bit and drilled a hole in the top to vent. I set it on a block to keep it at their head height. You’ve got to train them on it but, they eventually take to it. I’ll try out a pvc waterer later using these side nipples for the rest of my flock.

Great product!
The chicks love this and so do I. I started them on chick nipples and switched them to these “grown-up” nipples at four weeks. I moved out the little nipples once I saw several of the littles successfully using these big-girl drinkers. I did my best to demonstrate by pushing the nipples and causing a drop of water to settle on the lower lip. You’ll need a drill and a bit slightly smaller than the insert “peg.” I don’t remember what size I used. I also squeezed a little silicone caulk around the edges of my drilled holes before screwing in the nipples. I don’t know whether it was necessary... it was probably over-kill. At any rate they don’t leak at all. I wish I hadn’t been in such a hurry and used a bucket without a lid. The lid matters.

Good for 6 months then failures after failures.
I purchased these at the end of February 2019. Writing this review at the beginning of March 2020. These waterer nipples are easy to install with hardware store PVC fittings. They worked great for the first 6 months, then since then they have slowly started to fail one by one. I'd come home and see the run flooded with water and find our rain barrels nearly empty. The push connection fails and remains slightly open, draining your water source. Since that 6 month period in the beginning it has seemed like one or two fail every couple months resulting in the water running out of the rain barrels. Not something you want in a self reliable setup. Would not recommend and would not purchase again. Too risky to have my ladies without water.I initially did not install with plumbers thread sealant tape, then attempted to salvage the product when I replaced one after the other by using the tape, and then those started to fail. Will be looking elsewhere for replacements.

A bit hard for a my young chicks.
My chooks are about a month old. They don't seem to yet have the strength to push the nipple enough to get the water to come out. They seem to work just fine though, when I push them with my finger. I have a couple mounted in a Nalgene bottle that is out of style. No leaks to speak of. Perhaps they'll get the hang of it in another few weeks. I'll re visit this review then.

Only half my hens could work these...
Only about half of our hens could figure out how to work these nipples for water - which is no good. The others saw those drinking and kept trying and trying to hit the peg just right/or enough to release the water. You could see them getting frustrated (and thirsty). They were vocal about it too! It was sad to watch. I'll need to take this out of the coop now. All the hens need water. Otherwise I am making more work for our family to refill two waterers, and the chickens have less space to roam around in. Its a shame I now have a real nice, useless, 5 gallon container with holes drilled in it :(

Better then the Chicken Drinker Cup Versions
My chickens learned how to use these water nipples within seconds of me showing them.I switched from the Chicken Drinker Cup versions because the chickens were able to push the yellow peg and get it stuck to the side and flood their brooder. After this happened twice with two different cups installed I purchased these nipples instead and am very pleased. No leaks, nothing is getting stuck. I was able to use my 3/8in holes with plumbers tape, but the instructions say to use a 11/32 drill bit.
