How To Judge A Horoscope: I To Vi Houses - Vol.1

Good for knowledge but confusing while calculations and predictions
At first let me clear that I am not an astrologer. I have a passion to read astrological books and journals. While reading this book, I came across certain things that create confusions. For instance, in case of Virgo ascendant (kanya lagna ) Sun is considered as neutral in this book. Apply your common sense . In Kanya lagna , Sun is the lord of house no 12 , the house of losses, expenditures, waste. Then how can Sun be called neutral?? On the other hand, Jupiter, the Guru, is the lord of house no 4 that is of comfort, emotion , peace, house and properties as well as the lord of 7th house that represents marriage, life partner. Then how can Jupiter be Evil or Malefic ??There are lots more confusions that I felt personally. This is completely my point of view. May be I'm less knowledgeable. However, this book is undoubtedly very informative.

Banglore v. Raman, name is enough.
Did R&D in jyotish, searched a library, got a lot of name in mind, for reading, of writers, this is one of the best classic writer who demand only consistency in understanding.

Klassiker

Very Good Book!
Both volumes, one and two, are very helpful to analyze horoscope that includes different aspects of effect on house and it's lord. Some real time examples help to understand it better. Need to have both volumes.

Stuck in the past, misleading.
B.V. Raman takes a very simplistic and black and white approach to Vedic Astrology in this series. Boiling his conclusions down to "good" or "bad" using methods that don't demonstrate Vedic Astrology's utility as a tool for guidance. This is not to say I don't believe in "good" or "bad" outcomes but you must flush out Raj Yoga's, mahadasha, and other divisional charts to call a position "Good" or "Bad". Many charts he seemed bad did indeed have potential if proper guidance was implied. One may say "Well this is just the basics, he's not supposed to be teaching us everything!" Yes, this is true. If you are going to teach the basics do not swindle your audience by reaching these black and white conclusions, this leads to very bad habits and misunderstandings. Show your audience how to read a chart and in "life-terms" the kind of things a person with a certain chart may run into. This book is very old school and the fact that it is still revered is an accurate representation of how slow moving the subject is and how close minded those who study it are.
