Is the bacteria guaranteed alivetill expiration date?

I a don't think so. I do know it needs to be stored in a cool dry place. Heat kills it

Would sitting in a hot mailbox kill the probiotics?

If it was HOT my answer is yes. I never get supplements in the summer. Go to your health food store store for some like this.

Does this product need to be refrigerated? What happens when it's in a hot tack room over the summer?

I leave one small jar at a time in my tack room in all temperatures and I have had no problem with this products effectiveness. I then keep refilling that same jar from the larger jar of this product in my house as needed. Leaving it in a tin feed bin as I do keeps it a bit cooler in the summer. I hope this helps. BTW Love this product! It has the ingredient my Vet informed me to make sure is in a probiotic (saccharomyces Cerevisiae).
