Secure straps, big, well made materials - you can cram a lot in these
I got this to have an easily accessible pouch on the front of my hiking bag. I like that there are horizontal and vertical strap options to allow you to really secure it in place for intense hikes. The two compartments are big enough to fit basically any phone and many additional items. On my hikes, I put my iPhone 14 Pro Max, a flow the folding pocket knife (similar in size to my phone), gum, chapstick, tissues, my AirPods, and tampons. I also use a small waterproof bag to fit these items. The case is durable but stretchy enough to be able to squeeze more stuff in if you need. I am confident that I could probably fit more in this if I needed to. It is secure and does not move/wiggle around during hikes!

Perfect solution for Metrocard
My 12 yr old son used to lose his Metrocard regularly because his backpack was behind him and unreachable on crowded buses and trains. So he would hold the card in his hand after swiping it, and then drop it somewhere without realizing it. I got this backpack pouch to attach to the backpack strap on the front, so that he can easily pull out the Metrocard and slip it back in. It worked perfectly for a year. I was able to use the velcro straps on the LLBean backpack he used to have. I wasn't able to attach it as easily to his Timbuktu backpack's straps. One of the customer reviews (by Lilliana Kim, thank you) mentioned using a carbiner, and that works perfectly. I attached a carbiner to the backpack's strap and can hang the pouch off it and also wrap the pouch's horizontal velcro straps around the backpack's straps. My son now uses the mesh pocket in the front for his school ID, the front zipped pocket for the Metrocard, and the back zipped pocket for house keys.Only drawback is that the pouch's velcro straps lose their grip after about a year or two.

5 years going strong
This is one of those items I wonder how I ever did without it. I just decided to get a "backup" and realized my original is 5 years old! Zippers and materials still solid despite countless hikes, backing trips, travel etc. And the price hasn't changed. FYI It does need a horizontal strap to attach to so you can't attach it to a belt loop that runs vertically.Great product, just ordered another one.

writing titles is the hardest part of a review
I love this thing. It has two pockets, and I put my phone in one, for easy access for pictures, and a 3 oz pepper spray (actually more like a mini bear spray) in the other. It's just the right size, big enough for what I want to store in it, and small enough so it's not too bulky. I liked it so much, I bought another one, but it's hard to remember what it's called when I'm searching my orders. A strap pouch, strap pack, I guess that works.Let me compare this to two other products I like a lot, the Freemove waist strap pack and the 4Monster buttpack. The Freemove goes on the waist strap pack. The 4Monster is a regular buttpack, which means it has a waist strap and can be used with or without the backpack, like maybe you want to hike to the top of the hill and leave your backpack at camp, but want to take your phone, wallet and keys with you.The Boosteady goes on the shoulder strap, so it sits up much higher, in case you need to forage a river or something.Weight: Freemove 2.42 oz, 4Monster 2.56 oz, Boosteady 3.65 oz.Size: Freemove 1.1 liters, 4Monster 2.6 liters, Boosteady 0.9 liters.Cost: Freemove $10.95, 4Monster $16.99, Boosteady $11.99.Zippable Pockets: Freemove 1 (with divider), 4Monster 3, Boosteady 2 (1 with divider) plus 1 external pocket. All three are waterproof, except for the zipper, so you may want to store your goods in a ziplock bag.All three will hold your 1) phone and 2) pepper spray or your wallet.I like all three of them a lot, so it depends on whether you want a shoulder strap pouch, a waist strap pouch, or a separate buttpack. If I had to choose only one, I'd go with the buttpack because it can be used without the backpack, but all three are handy.

Sharp screws, too short for my phone
I'm only giving this 3 stars because the ends of the red screws on the molle clip are left raw and sharp. The first time I used it I scratched myself and it hurt for hours. I am trying to think what I can cover the ends of the screws with so they don't hurt me again. This will be especially important as the ends of the screws are under the backpack strap resting against your shirt. So, if you're wearing a thin shirt, they are going to poke you right through the material. The weight of the pack pressing on you is going to make it worse. The only other negative thing is that it's slightly too short for my Samsung S21 Ultra so the zipper won't shut. I still use it for my phone and just leave the top open. On the positive side, the molle clip works great...in fact, as long as your backpack straps are not wider than 3", you don't have to have a vertical strap as stated in the ad. My main shoulder straps are plain and do not have a horizontal or vertical strap attached, but I was able to put the molle clip right on the shoulder straps and it fit fine (my straps are exactly 3" wide. Anything wider and the molle clip wouldn't fit). You can turn the screws to adjust for the thickness of the strap to get the pouch to fit snugly. All in all, I would purchase this again because the idea is great, but I do think improvement is needed. I love having a quick place to stash my phone within reach without having to take my pack on and off.

Accessory pockets
Back in the day, you could easily buy accessory pockets for packs. Now it doesn’t seem that the major manufacturers are making them. This product is exactly what I was looking for. I put it on the shoulder strap of a Patagonia backpack. Looks well made and sturdy. Came in a day and was cheap. What’s not to like ?
