Best Photography Book I Have Ever Purchased!
I have a fairly large number of photography books, including all of Salgado's. This is the best book I have ever purchased! It is the result of years of effort by Salgado with the assistance of the Brazilian Army, the state's indigenous people agency, interpreters, etc. Salgado's team in Paris is large and highly skilled. Individual photographs from the book are available from ten to forty thousand dollars, but if you don't have that kind of money, purchase this spectacular book and you'll spend hours pouring over the great photos and fascinating text.

Great black and white photographs of the Amazon and the indigenous people
This is a great book with outstanding photos and a lot of information about the indigenous people. There are several blank pages in the book that I think could have been used for pictures.I also wish, the captions would be right under the photos instead of at the end of the book. Having to move back and forth makes it a bit tedious, especially since this is a large and heavy book. But the photos are well worth it!

The excellent quality I received it in
I was impressed by the pristine condition this book arrived, not at all damaged, well padded and therefore I am extremely proud of the book but also of the condition I received it.

A disappointment
Lots, and lots, and lots, of helicopter views of the amazon bassin, interspersed with staged portraits of indigenous tribes... Mr Salgado has lost his touch it seems, the vibrant urgency of his earlier work just isn't there anymore. He seems content in only brushing over the surface of his vast subject, reluctantly getting off his chopper to take glamour shots of the natives. We do not gain any deeper insight into the complexities and issues at stake, no greater understanding of the factors playing into the degradation of this immensely important ecosystem. Less photojournalism than picture-magazine editorial work, this is indeed a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I consider Sebastião Salgados previous works to be towering achievements in the field, his sense of composition and light unsurpassed, his ethical commitment towards documenting the existential stuggles of the vulnerable and disenfranchised worthy of the highest regard. This though is hardly anything more than an unnecessarilly heavy (yet superb) coffee-table book. Hopefully some of the funds generated by the sales will come back to support those fighting to preserve the amazonian forest. If you're new to his work I suggest viewing the documentary 'Salt of the Earth' instead.

Nell'insieme consigliato
